More camera options

I have a really hard time getting a good camera position in the car. One issue is the camera shake. The game is barely playable in bumpy gravel stages. Especially if your monitor is close in a sim setup. It's really hard to focus on the road and very unrealistic. The slider for "camera shake" has not a strong enough effect, no matter what setting it's still very bumpy. The solution would be to let me turn off the shaky cam completely like in VR, locked to horizon. That's how cars feel in real life.

But since we have a very shaky camera I have to move the screen away from me or it's really hard for my eyes. But when I do that the helmet cam becomes less usable because of FOV and the big sunscreens on top/dashboard on bottom is blocking most of the screen (Let us remove the sunscreens maybe?). So next best thing is dash cam. But that is not adjustable and in many cars it is set (too) low so half of the screen is blocked by the dashboard and you can't see the road. Make it adjustable? So eventually I ended up with bumper cam. It's the only camera that gives me a good view of the street, is consistent with different cars and doesn't give me nausea from the shaking. But it's also much less immersive...

So yeah, would be really nice to have some OPTIONS.

Just btw: These are the things I would gladly spend real money on! A DLC module that gives me full control of the in-game camera? I'd buy that! Upgraded driving physics? I get my credit card right now. A non-beta, performant and sharp looking VR mode? I would instantly spend another 20$ on that (as much as the game cost me in summer sale).

Agreed we need way more adjustability for cockpit camera, mainly forward and backwards. Also the option to completely disable camera shake and camera reaction to acceleration and deceleration for cockpit view.

  • So I played around with VR today. Dropped to 72hz to get stable gameplay and I had my performance overlay on. So I was driving a gravel stage (Mexico) and I noticed a lot of stutter especially when cornering. I remember many posts from various discussion stating that VR mode was stuttering a lot for them in corners too. So I checked the overlay during a corner to see what the issue was but my fps didn't drop. Frametimes were stable too. Then I tried an asphalt stage next (Central Europe) and the first few corners where perfectly smooth. But then on a fast corner the stuttering was back (no fps drops).

So is it possible, that the camera, even though it's locked to the horizon, is still shaking when your car looses traction, even in VR!? Would be great if someone could confirm. I'm fairly certain there is something going weird going on.

BTW: I instantly beat all my times using VR, simply because I could perfectly see the road with the camera locked to the horizon and not shaking/wobbling up and down all the time. For competitive games VR should be its own category or forbidden. Feels like cheating compared to flatscreen because the camera is much more stable.
