WRC 23/24 Constant frustration

I've tried several times to play this game because I like the WRC atmosphere but I really can't get any satisfaction in playing.
I'm not good in driving so I play between 75%-80% of difficulty but still I can't get any good result fromt this game.
In my last attempt I tried to run the WRC2 2024 championship with a Skoda RS: started with Montecarlo which was a triumph, sometimes I've beaten my opponents by over 30 seconds and constantly among the Rally1 times, then Sweden: in long stages was hard to keep the pace even because I've rolled at the end of a stage for no reason (or for something I haven't understood) but still won some stages, not satisfactory but somewhat decent. Now Portugal, I constantly keep over 50'' per stage if I only dare to push a little bit the car starts bouncing like a flipper ball between rocks and gets overly damaged causing of course to get more late.

Sorry for being here moaning but I'm here to ask some questions: am I the only one that gets always frustrated from this game? Do you find the AI opponents totally inconsistent? Am I the only one finding some rallies litterally IMPOSSIBLE to keep a good pace (Portugal, Mexico, Greece, Japan)? I am under the impression that in low speed stages it's nearly impossible to beat the AI, in order to be quicker you need to go flat out in 4th 5th gear otherwise AI is just too quick: it seems like they are always driving on a straight line, and it's like this since the game has been released, has someone noticed the same?
Again sorry to be here moaning but I'd like to get any advice or at least to understand I'm not the only one struggling that much with this game.

Thank you everyone for your attention.
I think I'll be back to Assetto Corsa, I'm slow even there but at least I get some satisfaction from driving in it.

Yeah, the AI times are all over the place.I can get podium at Japan, Croatia, Chile or Estonia if I drive at my best. In Mexico, Kenya and Scandia (and some others) I'm always in the last 5-10 no matter how well I drive. (Quick Play Solo Championships, 32 cars). It seems that sometimes it's for one stage's unrealistical pace. (Losing 35 seconds per section fe. Kenya has that kind of stage, in Croatia you can win 15 seconds for the same reason.)

Loving the game otherwise, but if something could be done to this, it would make the strughgle worthwhile.

  • I haven't had the same issues with AI consistency that I had back at launch, but I do still occasionally see head scratching results. Mind you I'm playing at 91 right now so maybe things get more consistent at higher difficulties.

As for driving advice on those more difficult stages, the best advice I can give is "slow is smooth and smooth is fast". Portugal in particular is a tough one. It combines constant close hazards with some of the worst grip in the game. The focus should be on those smooth corner entries. Even if you bleed time, you often (without realizing) make up time on corner exits, not to mention the fact that nothing slows down the car like crashing.

Of course that's an easy thing to say but a hard thing to do. I think my second best piece of advice is to forgive yourself for mistakes. Rally is a tough challenge, both in terms of skill and in terms of mental endurance. It's lessons are often harsh, but if you're patient, rewarding. Sometimes you need to walk away for a bit to absorb what you've learned and reset for the next stage or rally. And sometimes you just have to shrug and say "it just wasn't my rally".
