I got the same problem. I have the TH8A shifter (and T300 Ferrari Integral wheel) and want to use it as a handbrake. I already tried to modify the device_defines.xml and got to change the type to handbrake - but still it says i double bind the shift pedals.
Even without the xml modification i see in the general control menu that it registers button 9 and 10 when i use the shifter. Not 1 and 2 like when i use the shift pedals of the wheel. So not sure what is going on here.
Can't really play properly until this is fixed ☹️
