Graphics Issue: Distracting Artifacting, Makes Night Stages Impossible

Product Name: EA Sports WRC

Username: daniellearmouth

Date Encountered: 31st October 2023

Device Type: PC (Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB DDR4, NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti)

Troubleshooting Attempted: Driver updates, verifying file integrity

Hello there. I've been having a fun time with WRC so far, but I've hit a brick wall in terms of progression, because I am having a problem with the visuals that makes it fundamentally impossible to play.

Throughout the game, I have been experiencing visual artifacting much like what I've shown in the attached images. Black squares take up much of the screen, making things a bit difficult to see, but at first, the issue wasn't intolerable exactly, just a little annoying. However, where things got really troublesome was at the first attempt at a night rally, and it's impossible to see anything in that.

In preparation for playing the game, I updated my computer's graphics drivers to the most recent version (GeForce Game Ready Driver 546.01). My NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti's a bit behind the curve now, but I have gotten good framerates from it, but issues of the nature I've just brought up are ultimately preventing me from playing more than I would want to.

If there is any more information I need to provide, I'll try my best to provide it.

I have the same problem and I have found out that it has something to do with the anisotropic filtering. If you turn it off for night stages, the flickering disappears.

  • I too can confirm this game has a issues with my RX 7900XTX. There are a lot of small black spots popping in on the road momentarily, multiple times per second. Switching off anisotropic filtering didn't fix it for me, but it did make it less apparent.

Auto exposure is also broken, Mexico is unplayable. The road surface is way too bright. I'm using a mod to fix that otherwise the game would burn my eyes out.

This is the difference for me - the first picture is without anisotropic filtering, and the second picture is with 16x. On Rally Iberia the difference is even more noticeable.

    Hello Support Team,

I've had issues with my AMD 7900 XTX with blackpolygon flickering on the ground of the Track on Night Races. Today I've updated to the newest AMD Drivers and voila the issue is gone. I just wanted to inform you, and i am looking forward to the VR Patch later. Another Issue that seems to be is the anisotropic filtering beeing to sharp or causinj noising effect on the ground, but i disable it in the game and forced it to 16x via the AMD Driver Settings -> Game Profile Settings and this works better to a certain degree. Another thing i noticed that if the shadow quality is set to higher than very low in the night, that shadowcasts from the headlights look very low resolution, somehow this causing the lights to strobe a little bit, even on the ultra settings. on very low it looks somehow better in the night. I hope there will be a way to make shadows from the headlights looking better on ultra than how it is now. I think this should be more important when the VR Patch is coming.

Greetings and have a nice day!

  • I have the same issue, night stage turns completely black after a few meters.

This happens on GTX 9xx series cards. I had the same problem on GTX 980 Ti and I replaced the card with RTX 3060 and everything works as it should.

  • I just confirmed that this is a problem with mip mapping not applying to the road textures (all environments actually?). I changed r.MipMapLODBias to 15.0 which is always the worst quality. This is the confirmation of the setting:

There's just one thing that mip mapping is not applied to. Guess what it is?

Even worse during the night (AA set to low):

Mip mapping seems to not be applied at all or something is missing with it's bias.
Bump mapping seems to be too aggressive and flickery too.

    Hi,

I just played through the 5 hour trial of WRC 24 with EA Play.

I have the same issues with my 7900 xtx, there are black polygons flickering on the Road structure. Sometimes more and sometimes less and in certain areas of the game there is no problem. I have been trying all different graphics settings under advanced in the game from Ultra Low to Ultra and also tested individual settings but with the same result. I also tried with the settings under basic: with/without vsync, all different options of anisotropic filtering från 2 to 16 and AA from lowest to highest and I don't use any upscaling. I tried with stock settings in AMD Adrenaline too and no overclocking and I even cleared the shader cache from Adrenaline. None of this got rid of the black polygons flickering on the Road structure(They look like blank black textures and is then replaced by correct textures, sometimes they are greyish in color and flickering.) I love this game and is interested in buying it but I would like to know if this problem is still experienced by others and if there is a way to resolve it.

Did not get any good screenshots of this since it was so fun playing and now the 5 hours trial have passed, but I saw earlier in this thread this picture that I have attached to this post that looks very similar to my problem.

I don't have this problem with any other games.

Hope that someone have advice about how to fix this fllickering of black polygons with black or greyish color on the road structure.

    Best Regards

  • Hi,

I bought the full version of the game and the problems I experienced in the 5 hour trial version are gone.

Have no idea why there were black polygons flickering on the road structure in the trial version but I'm happy the problem does not exist in the full version.

    Best Regards
