I believe the bug is related to the hand brake. I did another event in the Ford Escort MK2 at rally Iberia (100% tarmac, light rain). I found that almost any time I used the hand brake I got the bug and had to come to a complete stop to get drive again. Most of the time I am not using the hand brake, but if I brake late I sometimes pull it to get some rotation on entry. Doing so usually resulted in losing drive until I came to a complete stop.
