'Manual clutch override' option works like 'Automatic clutch'

Product: EA SPORTS™ WRC
Platform:Steam-PC
Summarize your bug In Dirt Rally 1 and 2, Manual clutch override was about clutch working even for cars with no actual clutch. This option has nothing to do with cars with H-shifter because those cars actually have clutch. But EA WRC's Manual clutch override works like 'Automatic cluch'. You can H-shift freely with no clutch. Cars' engine won't stop when I completely stop the car only pressing brake. I don't recognize the difference between 'Automatic clutch' and 'Manual clutch override'. I believe 'Manual clutch override' option must work like Dirt Rally 1 and 2.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Just set the clutch option to 'Manual clutch override' and 'manual H-shifter'. And try to H-shift without pressing clutch. The gear would change with no problem.
What happens when the bug occurs? Manual clutch override works like 'Automatic cluch'.
What do you expect to see? The 'Manual clutch override' option must work like Dirt Rally 1 and 2.

Manual clutch override works like 'Automatic cluch'.

  • Where is point if you want use clutch Select manual clutch and ur car shutdownvif if clutch not pressed manualboverride do just what expexted To do. Override option alle use clutch even clutch is automatic

  • @ueyhuom Manual override is what it says - it's automatic but there is still an option to override it for clutch-kicks etc. All cars have a clutch, even the wrc1 cars with a sequential shifter. How would they stop otherwise?

As above, "Manual clutch override" will allow manual control to temporarily override the auto clutch: P.e, for a user on a controller with buttons for shift up/down, set globally as manual sequential while driving an H pattern car that will require an automatic clutch assist. Then, by selecting "Manual clutch override" instead, it becomes possible to clutch kick with a button assigned to clutch in case of need, else it'll be ignored when only "Automatic clutch" is set.

It already worked this way in DR1/2 for this specific scenario.

  • I am sorry but I think everybody is wrong.

I just tested both games just now and made a table. See below.

I use T300RS wheel and TH8A H-shifter. I don't use gamepad, so maybe it is different for gamepad users.

Testing options for Dirt Rally 2.0 are 'H-shifter with clutch or Sequential' and 'Clutch override' on or off

Testing options for EA WRC is sequential for VW Polo and H-pattern for Lancia 037 and 'Clutch manual' or 'Manual override'. (since there's no 'H-shifter with clutch or Sequential' in EA WRC)

You can see for seq-shifter cars, 'Manual override' for both games works like automatic clutch but you can still use clutch (for clutch kick or something)

but in 'manual clutch' you can't use clutch in DR2(maybe the car doesn't have one?? I don't know)

For H-shifter cars, 'Manual clutch' for both games works like real manual clutch,

but in 'Manual override' it works like 'automatic clutch' in EA WRC.

In DR1, there is an explanation for each options and for Clutch override it says like 'enables clutch working for cars even without clutch (for clutch kick)'.

I think if it is what the developer intended, DR1, DR2 was right, and EA WRC is quite wrong.

(first of all, thanks for bothering to check all those relevant combinations on wheel)

"For H-shifter cars, 'Manual clutch' for both games works like real manual clutch,

but in 'Manual override' it works like 'automatic clutch' in EA WRC."

This was the exact situation I described, but you probably missed that you can still temporarily override the auto clutch assist with what you have assigned for clutch only when Manual Override is enabled (vs. Automatic Clutch), which is a main differentiating aspect to Automatic Clutch. And yes, I can only mention gamepad usage for DR1/2/WRC set as manual sequential+clutch override, where it acts the same on all games, regardless if the car is seq or H.

Anyway, part of the mismatching behavior you observe could be related to WRC not even offering the "H-shifter with clutch or Sequential" option (for users with both paddles and H+clutch mapped), so paddles or H will only work depending on the real chosen car setup instead of overriding all cars. So that would also affect Manual Override behavior depending on real car transmission.

  • Have you noticed that manual clutch is faster than manual override for H-box cars?
This topic hasn't been discussed in a few months but I think my finding is relevant anyway and I can't find any related posts to this on either reddit or the forum here. When using ghosts for comparison in time trial mode, I've found that manual clutch results in better straight line speed. You can try this out on a stage which starts with a long straight section (I've noticed this on Otepää and Truuta). If you set your best time with manual override selected, then load your personal best as a ghost and go with manual clutch, you should notice that you are slowly gaining speed on the ghost with the gearshifts being shorter and I think that revs are dropping less during each gear change
