[PC] FPS drops After 1.6.0 Update

I saw that Patch 1.6.0 made some performance improvements and was hoping that Rally Mediterraneo would get some as well but since because there was nothing, I decided to make a post here.

Added three 3 very self explanatory pictures different stages of Rally Mediterraneo, all getting very jarring FPS drops. All recordings were done on Medium settings, cinematic AA, 8x anisotropic filtering at 1080p with no upscaling. PC specs are in the pictures.

I don't really believe that the FPS drops come from arriving at specific locations. In Maririe stage the framerate drops as you approach the village and stays constantly low but in other stages you can start in the village and the FPS is good but then drops off as you drive later into the stage. Capannace was especially bad because when the FPS drops it doesn't stay constant but rather keeps jumping up and down which also changes the input lag and throws you completely off balance. Hopefully something can be done about this.

  • I found that if I turn off Resizable bar(AMD smart access memory) in the bios, I get a bit more fps and also less of a drop in gpu usage. But it's still not ideal ☹️

EDIT: so no!  finland and before the end of the stage 55 fps and gpu usage 50%. the game is starting to annoy me...😞

Yeah so things i tried that made no difference:

    CPPC enabled/disabled

    CPPC preferred cores enabled/disabled

AMD smart access memory/resizable Bar enabled/disabled

    disable Virtual Super resolution

Disable all options where possible in Radeon Control panel (freesync, enhanced sync, antilag, so on)

Disabling CPU core boost (lock 5800X3D to 3.4-3.6GHz)

    SMT enabled/disabled

limit affinity to 6 CPU cores

limit affinity to 6 CPU cores + their SMT pair for 12 threads

different and faster DDR4 memory kit

    Windows 10

    Windows 11 clean install

    AMD Radeon Driver 24.4.1 -Win11

    AMD Radeon Driver 23.10.2 -Win10

    AMD Radeon Driver 23.12.1 - Win10

    AMD Radeon Driver 24.1.1 - Win10

BIOS versions for ASUS B450-I Motherboard:

    5302

    5404

    @nbates66

How are you doing these days? Find a solution?

    I'm trying to play on PSVR2 on a 6800xt and it's been a nightmare

When I can get my game playable at all, I found that now when I get to this end-stage performance drop it will frequently crashes the game to desktop.

This is happening in Clubs too, where I will be within 0.5km of the finish line but end up with a DNF because of the crash.

But I've noticed that I get this sudden performance drop like you've described right before the crash

nah no change really at my end, i am however watching reporting on Windows 11 branch prediction improvements for Ryzen processors, apparently it could improve things for 5xxx series too but i'm not certain yet if it'll have an effect on EA WRC:
first appearing in Windows 11 24H2:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlfTHCzBnnQ

but also getting backported to Windows 11 23H2 via an optional update
    https://old.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/1f2t9s5/amd_confirms_branch_prediction_optimizations_are/

as far as crashing goes - I'm i can't say i had VR crash many times but i haven't put in enough VR-side hours to know for sure, and also my ideal VR runtime route of via WindowsMR OpenXR implementation got broken in an EA WRC update.

  • Any news about this issue?

It is still there in 1.9 and as I am using VR, the frame drops at the end of nearly all stages are a complete show stopper for me that made me uninstall the game and get back to DIRT Rally 2.0.

  • I have a problem. EA SPORTS WRC update version 1.9. RTX4090 FE video card. Graphics settings 3840 x 2160, maximum quality! You start the race, and in some places in some tracks the game stumbles and slows down, then goes smoothly, then twitches again. If you restart the track, then in those places where the picture used to twitch, now it does not twitch, but begins to twitch in other places along the track. Sometimes the game suddenly goes into smooth mode after starting a track without a single stop, and you can walk to the end of the track without a single stop and stumble! But if you restart the track, the freezes will resume again. Disabling the hardware acceleration of the Win 11 GPU during scheduling does not solve the problem. Using DLSS or disabling it, as well as even switching the quality to ultra-low and 1920 x 1080 resolution also does not solve the problem.!

Add. 1. All the different combinations of vsync, and the "maximum performance" mode, and the "low latency" mode. I even replaced the operating system from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro, I bought a new RTX4090 FE video card (previously it was RTX 3080Ti) I did my best, but it did not lead to an improvement in the situation. The only thing I noticed is that in those moments when severe stuttering occurs, the FPS indicator does not fall below 53 frames, but it feels like the frame rate is at the level of 25-30 frames. But the frame-per-second counter shows 53-55 frames per second. Sometimes it seems that the PCI-E bus bandwidth is not enough. But I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the PCI-E bus. No game behaves like this anymore. Although I always set all games to the maximum quality settings and 4K resolution! Most importantly, it is alarming that after several preloads of the route, it may happen that I will be able to complete the entire route without a single stumble. And this is with maximum graphics settings! But once you restart the track again, there are jerks again, which alternate with smooth passage. It looks like this: smoothly, jerkily, smoothly, jerkily!

Add. 2. Any other games with maximum 4K quality on the same TV, which I use as a huge monitor, give a great game without the slightest twitch (v-sync is enabled).

Add. 3. I noticed an interesting behavior. There is always a slowness at the beginning of any of the tracks! It feels like FPS = 30, but I'm sure it's a glitch in the game because the FPS counter shows 60. So, if at this moment you go into the graphics settings and change any of the values, then exit the settings menu even without saving (!), then the slowness disappears and the game goes smoothly! Then, in some rare places, there is a slowdown and jerks, which I wrote about above, but this trick with the settings no longer works!.
