Steering rotation angle (incorrect animation)

Product: EA SPORTS™ WRC
Platform:Steam-PC
Summarize your bug Driver view steering angle wrong and does not match user steering wheel angle for all cars with more than 540 deg steering lock
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? calibrate your wheel to it's full rotation (for example 900 deg). Then select an old car like Lancia fulvia. Turn your steering wheel 90 deg. In car animation will show 54 deg
What happens when the bug occurs? on screen steering does not match actual steering, very offputting.
What do you expect to see? on screen wheel angle match actual steer angle - at least with "driver hands removed" option, or up to 540 deg (then stop)

Steering wheel animation appears fixed at 540 deg maximum (270 each way) for all cars.

However, some cars have more than 540 deg steering lock in the game. Therefore if you're driving an older car with say 900 degrees of rotation in the game, like the Lancia Fulvia or Audi Quattro S1, the steering on screen is scaled such that the 540 degrees animation is stretched to fill 900 degrees of user wheel rotation, resulting in a mismatch between the user wheel and the screen wheel angle. This is incredibly annoying and off-putting when you are trying to drive with any sense of realism or immersion.

If i choose 60% saturation to bring my 900 degree wheel down to 540 degrees lock, then for cars with 540 degree rotation, i now only get 90 degrees each way on my wheel.

if i turn my wheel 270 during calibration to get 540 degrees lock, then for cars with 540 degree rotation, i now get just under 180 degrees each way on my wheel.

So this behaviour cannot be corrected.

At the very least, the animation should remain in line with the user steering wheel, and if the user needs to go more than 270 degrees in any direction, the animation can just stop, respecting the 540 degrees max already in place. This situation of going beyond 270 degrees should be very rare in any car.

Then with the option of driver hands removed enabled, the steering animation should be allowed to go fully to 900 degrees for cars that have this additional lock.

The decision has clearly been made to cater for controller users so they know that when they reach 270 degrees either direction, this is max steering in any car.

This should not be forced onto wheel users.

Additionally the slow / damped animation is clearly for controller users so the wheel isn't flicking about all over the place at crazy speed.

Again, this should not be forced onto wheel users. the wheel angle should be immediately responsive.

Summarize your bug Cockpit steering wheel animation only rotates 90 degrees
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? In any driving , all the cars , even the builder
What happens when the bug occurs? Animation not working properly
What do you expect to see? no more than 90degrees rotation on cockpit view of the steering wheel

it only rotates 90 degrees at maximum .
The input works like before, everything is fine in rest ,its just the animation and its pretty annoying ,especially for peeps who got used to be real.

I have the same problem after patch installed. In addition there is no steering wheel animation (movement) in reply mode (the driver keeps the steering wheel straight all the time).

  • This. The wheel does not move at all during a replay.

The driver does shift and handbrake. But he stopped steering all together.

  • In past Dirt games if you use Soft Lock on a calibrated sim wheel (e.g.900°) having both Driver and Wheel animation option on while be 1:1 until 540 then the animation will stop. If you choose Wheel Only animation the virtual wheel will be 1:1 with your sim wheel up to 1080.

This has been apparent in my experience with EA WRC so far as well.

  • I don't use the cockpit camera with the wheel but it is also very weird when watching a replay with tight turns or fast counter steering where you had to give it all to keep the car on the road and it looks like the guy is almost asleep.
