Objects and Shadows Pop-up and shimmering

Blurry anti-aliasing and the shimmering of trees are a problem, but the pop-up phenomenon of visible objects and shadows is an immersion breaker. Is there any possibility that this situation will improve?

This was also a problem in Assetto Corsa Competizione, which shares the same engine, but I hope it will be improved in WRC.

  • The anti aliasing method used in the game is really not appropriate in VR. Antialisasing on any level except low makes the game extremely blurry, like I'm wearing incorrect glasses, additionally they create stereoincorrect ghosting effects, especially in the rain. Windscreen wipers even make trees "grow" and "shrink" momentarily.

    Any upscalers make the game incredibly stereoincerrectly blurry too.

    Turning AA off (Low) makes EVERYTHING shimmer badly. The only bearable settings are reducing anisotropic filtering, so the textures are a bit blurrier and putting trees on ULTRA LOW, because then they turn into cutouts without much detail. At least they stop  to distractingly shimmer and let you focus on the road, which makes you forget that trees are just cutouts. Funny enough trees graphical settings barely make any difference in GPU frametimes. Funny enough ground cover models are so giant, you don't really notice them shimmer. But thin objects like fences, wires etc do shimmer and it's still distracting during a race.

    Can we have proper MSAA antialisasing?

  • The best I have got it is turning off the TAA via the game engine ini file than enabling DLAA. This gives a pretty good result (must have dlss turned on ingame)

    [SystemSettings]
    r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=0

    [/script/engine.renderersettings]
    r.NGX.DLAA.Enable=true

    Try pasting that at the end of your engine.ini file.

    And yes I know EA needs to provide this option in the menus.

    DLSS for DLAA is also possible to enable in engine.ini.

    So the DLAA engine.ini addon incl. DLSS activation looks like this, nothing to do with DLSS in the in-game menu.

    [/Script/Engine.RendererSettings]
    r.NGX.DLAA.Enable=true

    [SystemSettings]
    r.NGX.Enable=1

    r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=0

    This solves really the flicker and looks way better as the AA from the game but nevertheless it adds some blurriness.

    I added also the command to disable the AA from the game to be save not to have two AA algorithms active.

    OMG.

    Your solution is magical.

    After I followed your instructions, there is no more shimmering for trees.

    I hope EA&CM implements this parameter as a regular option.

    BUT, the main problem that I raised has not been solved yet.

    I hope somebody cares about the pop-up phenomenon of objects and shadows that I have mentioned.

    Not just them, For every occasion.

    I suspect it is a performance issue.

    It's like I am playing a game from 30 years ago.
