Game process does not exit, Steam shows as running

I've been having a frequent bug with Apex on PC using Steam. When exiting the game, it often continues to run the  r5apex_dx12.exe process in the background, and I cannot force close it from the Task Manager. Steam shows the game as running, and I can't force close it from Steam either.  I have to restart my PC just to get the process cleared.
