Frame Generation is randomly turning itself on

Even with the frame generation settings off, randomly I'll see the Steam Overlay FPS counter report that frame gen gets turned on for a second, and then turns itself back off. For example if the framerate counter says I'm getting "120 FPS" sometimes it'll suddenly say "120 FG" for just a second or two.

This is causing added input lag/delay and other visual issues that come from using frame gen for myself and others.

Based on other people on the Steam Forum testing if deleting the relevant dll files would forcibly disable it, it seems to be the Intel version of frame gen that's getting turned on randomly, since that's the one dll file that can't be disabled without the game crashing.

You can read more from all the other people who are experiencing this issue in these two Steam threads:

I’m honestly kinda scared this issue won’t get enough attention. A lot of people are just happy seeing high framerates, not realizing FG is secretly kicking in behind the scenes , most don’t even check if it’s raw FPS or not. If this turns out to be an actual “feature,” that’s gonna be a huge disappointment for me.

Same issue. I made a post here on the BF6 technical issues forum on launch day about this, but still no fix. I have tried everything that has been suggested on Steam forums and on Reddit. This is a game issue, not a client issue, and I simply uninstalled the game and am waiting for a fix before bothering with it again. Really wish EA would address this, because it seems like it would be an easy fix.

  • Same here. Disabling nVidia Reflex helped, but only on few maps. Also I have laptop with not best CPU (i5-11300H), so I bottlenecked at it, I locked FPS to prevent high time nudge, but when FG appears it additionaly overload CPU and I get high time nudge again :( . Also strange, but CPU not auto enabling turboboost and just working on base clock. More strange - CPU and GPU almost not heating, but I think that because of chilling GPU. In beta FG problems not appeared (but was overheating, haha).

    Same issue.

I suspect that it may attach to the VRAM leaks problem.

Thanks you but without frame cap or vsync. The image heavily tearing and ghosting, i really hope they aware this and this shouldn't be a function.

I am also experiencing this issue on my PC.

    Ryzen 7 5700X, Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070

This occurs always whenever one of these settings are turned on in-game: Nvidia Reflex (both On and Boost), Framerate Cap (in-game or with outside program like RivaTuner Statistics Server or in Nvidia Control Panel). Running the game with V-Sync On, that caps framerate to the monitor’s refresh rate, also makes this issue occur.

It occurs less often when both Reflex and Frame Cap are Off. The game will start switching between the two rendering modes when FPS dip below the monitor refresh rate or when the game is consistently running at FPS below monitor’s refresh rate (example: 86 FPS on a 120Hz screen).

Whenever the Steam overlay reports FPS as FG, additional input delay gets introduced resulting in aiming feeing floaty and unresponsive.

At this time the only fix for this is running the game without V-Sync, Nvidia Reflex and Framerate Cap and making sure the title always runs at above the screen’s max refresh rate. Playing this way however doesn’t feel viable for a lot of PC specs that don’t meet the absolute highest tier specified in System Requirements or for people with a high refresh rate monitors like 165Hz or above.

    Hopefully this gets adressed.

Someone finally reported this issue, there are alot of report on Reddit but not much people aware this. Here is the video, it means in short if i locked my fps to 117fps for 120hz monitor, whenever fps go to below 110 the FG auto kick in. I've disabled every frame gen method in window and in game setting.
