Stuck in Chat after death unable to respawn

After dying went to chat and clicked enter a few times, and then the game became unresponsive, the game was going and i could see my squadmate still fighting in the lower right mini spectator window, but could not interact with anything.

Tried all the buttons on the keyboard, steam overlay worked, as did the screenshot function, went to windows and back multiple times, but all i could do is sit there and wait until the match was over and then force shutdown the game.
