F1 25 on NVIDEA GeForce RTX5090 - Graphics Settings Problem.

Hi all.

This is my first time posting on the EA forums and I am hoping that the developers can pick this issue up, it has been reported elsewhere but it doesn't seem that wide spread (yet) see - https://www.reddit.com/r/F1Game/comments/1pyg416/f1_25_steampc_graphics_settings_keep_resetting_on/.

Having recently got back into PC gamin since the late 90's, I decided to splash out on a pretty high-end PC system. Things were going great, everything seemed ok at first, tested out games like Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, Avatar, ARC Raiders and Fortnite to name a few.

I am a big F1 fan, so naturally getting the latest F1 25 game was a given, however after the initial setup and testing things gradually went downhill.... everything at first worked fine, all the high-end Nvidia features like DLAA, DLSS, Ray/Path Tracing, Ultra Settings and 2x/3x/4x Frame Generation, I was seeing over 200fps with everything enabled. Then suddenly something went wrong, I now very rarely see the graphics settings actually reflect what the Nvidia card is actually performing... I can turn on and off DLSS 2x/3x/4x Frame Generation and it has absolutely no difference on the fps, the fps for most of the time is hovering around 30-90fps mark on average which means its not activating any frame generation capabilities at all regardless what the graphics menu is saying, I have also noted that even if I set all the settings to Ultra, when performing the in game benchmark test, it shows as using a "Custom" setting for the graphics even though I just set it to Ultra prior to the test.

I have spent the best part of the the last 4 days trying to fault find and to try to narrow down the cause. I firmly believe the issue is within the F1 25 game code. I have ruled out my other PC components including the GeForce RTX5090 drivers, application and settings.

I have performed the following tests:

  • Tested Nvidea DLSS Frame Generation 2x / 3x and 4x capabilities on Cyberpunk 2077 and they work as expected with a bump in frame rates for each mode.
  • I have removed all the Nvidea drivers, applications and settings including manually deleting system files and registry entries, used tools like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and NVSlimmer to help ensure everything was clean and that it wasn't a issue on the Nvidea software side.
  • Tried 3 different Nvidea GeForce RTX5090 drivers, this did not resolve the issue. I am currently on version 591.67 and also tested versions 591.44 and 581.15
  • I have testing running the F1 25 game via the EA launcher and using the Nvidea Application using their recommended settings, this made  no difference. I have also used the Override option under their Driver Settings to try and force DLSS Frame Gen x4, again, no difference.
  • I have completely uninstalled F1 25 3 times now using difference methods each time, including manually removing the configuration xml files stored under \Documents\My Games\F1 25\hardwaresettings\ folder. This did get it working for a short period, I managed to get DLSS 4x working as a "Windowed (Fullscreen) when running F1 25, but as soon as I changed the Graphics settings it ended up reverting back to it not working.

I am unable to consistently get Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation working on F1 25 and really need the developers to take a look.
I am happy to answer questions to help get to the bottom of this rather strange issue... I won't get the 4 days spent on this so far but really want to get this fixed.

  • The implementation of DLSS in the game is pretty poor IMO. They've been having issues with it since 2021 and even disabled it for a while during the life cycle of F1 23. I would just turn DLSS off because at this point, I assume it's a limitation of the EGO engine so we're not likely to get a fix until F1 27 comes out on a new game engine.

So a quick update today, as it stands, with DLSS Frame Generation not working, the frame rate is too choppy, so I decided to reduce the graphics settings from Ultra down to High to try and free up some fps. This worked as it started to run around the 100fps mark.

I played a few tracks and things were running smoothly albeit not running at Ultra settings, I then went back into graphics settings and re-ran the benchmark test and much to my surprise it was now churning out over 300fps. Had a closer look at I could definitely see ghosting during the test on the front wheels and wing which confirm that DLSS Frame Generation x4 was working again.

I am not sure what trigged it to start working again, as mentioned previously it does seem to be a issue and its intermittently working without any real consistency. I will report back when it stops working again but as it stands, I am unable to pin point why the graphics settings remain inconsistent.

Can one of the developers please take  a look? I would also request that the ghosting during DLSS Frame Generation also be looked at, as it could be a easy fix.

I have recently got a gaming computer with this Nvidia RTX 5090 card so I am not going to buy F1 25 until this issue is resolved.
