Attackers suddenly slow down while holding sprint

Am I the only experiencing this? I can’t find information about it anywhere. I frequently find my attacking player on a breakaway where I’m holding sprint and then he inexplicably slows like he’s running through sand! The rest of the players continue at full speed, and thus my guy usually gets caught up by defender. It’s as infuriating as it is inexplicable. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can get it to stop? At first I thought maybe my player was fatigued, but it happens when the energy bar still shows plenty of stamina. Comments (and commiseration?) welcome!

  • Sometimes is fatigue and player hasn't recovered from efforts shrtly before recieving the ball but it's also due to the touches of the ball theres some decelration there too that I've noticed but I try to solve that by flicking right stick as he touches the ball so the ball moves further away allowing player to raise his sprint speed but a player on the ball is always slower than one without, not sure by how much though coz it seems worse with players that don't have good first touch or dribbling ability.

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, I don’t think the flick will help much, as the player is already moving in slow motion and often can’t reach a (nearby) ball before the defender gets there. I’ve seen a Reddit thread where someone mentioned EA built in a “catch up” algorithm to the game some years ago that (artificially?) enables players on breakaways to be caught. I initially thought it sounded too much like a conspiracy, but I’m beginning to wonder because what I’m describing is NOT the dribbling player merely being slower than a defender at full sprint (which is both realistic and understandable), but, rather, this is an extreme slow down where the attacker suddenly looks like they’re running through sand. It’s the sort of thing where you’d interpret it as lag except that everything else in the game is moving at regular speed.

  • you're not the only one. makes me sick. they either slow down or the defensemen speed up.

There may be cheaters in the game, but what I’m describing occurs in Squad Battles as well as Rivals and Friendlies, so it’s not just against live opponents. And I want to reiterate—it DOES NOT seem to happen simply because the player is fatigued. It happens when my stamina bar is still almost completely blue. I’ll be speeding ahead of the defender one moment with RT held down to sprint and suddenly my player decelerates and starts shuffling like they’re stuck in sand.

if this is the way the game is designed to work then it would be nice if someone from EA could just respond by saying so (I’d hate it, but I’d grudgingly accept it). But I don’t notice it happening to my opponents and that’s why I’ve posted here in hopes of somebody explaining to me what’s going on.
