Controller does not control players during online games but can navigate menu

This happens randomly and is very very annoying and totally unexpected from a paid game, let alone a game that is active for over decades.

I start a game of rivals but suddenly my controller is not able to control any of the players. Nothing works after this. I am able to click on options and open the settings menu and everything looks fine in the settings. Just that the controller won't move or do anything to the players. I am able to use the keyboard though for input and the settings are all weird like k for passing, j for shooting or something like that. For movement its like wasd. This is such an annoying bug in the game and its been there for over 4 years and has been reported multiple times.  Can you atleast care a little bit about the experience you give to your users and fix this issue that has been reported over years of gameplay.
