Given how expensive storage has become, I am not electing to do any unnecessary reading/writing on my SSD to provide free QA.
But here's a little free QA. According to the response in that other post I pasted above, alt-tabbing as soon as you launch the game allows it to launch in the background without bricking the PC. Afterwards you can put focus on the game window and it seems to work.
Now, when I start it this way, every time it launches it takes me to the accessibility menu and resets all my audio options, 2 behaviors it was not doing before updating Windows. Pretty annoying to have to redo my options every time I launch the game. Less annoying than a bricked PC, but still substantially annoying.
