Controller disconnection

So i have a pretty old ps4 controller (it's the one that came with the box in 2014) and it still works great, all the buttons still work with little to none stick drift, but it sometimes likes to disconnect and reconnect by itself for a split second and it never bothered me 'cause it's just a quarters of a second thing then it's back to normal. Thing is, skate doesn't like to recognize my controller when it does this thing. As soon as it reconnects it's just mouse and keyboard, so i have to quit the game and restart it every time it happens to fix it. Am i stupid and missing some setting or is this just a bug?
