Game loads, then crashes to desktop as soon as I start moving around.

FIX UPDATE:
So I seem to have found a combination of settings that let me play again (not 100%, but it seems to be fairly stable):

In Steam right click Skate>Properties>General Tab - Then disable Steam Overlay.

In game: Disable upscaling. Drop graphics to Low preset (set FPS to 60), you can also enable Anti-aliasing.

ORIGINAL ISSUE:
After the last update, the game has been a proper mess... I often get login errors, or eternal black load screens.

Then when the game actually logs in and loads, it now crashes to desktop after exiting menu, and I start to run/push (after a few seconds).

I also tried teleporting to another player directly after exiting the menu, and it immediately crashes to desktop after it loads to the new location.

I've installed the latest display nvidia drivers, and I've verified game files in Steam... no change.

Update 1:
So I actually messed around in the menu a bit more (opened boxes, customized board, etc.).

I then stood still in game, did a bunch of tricks while standing still... but as soon as I start moving around (say after a few seconds, and I start moving at a higher speed...), the game just crashed to desktop.

Update 2:
I've found below in Application Event Logs:

"The description for Event ID 1 from source Application cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

EAAntiCheatService
The game skate.exe exited unexpectedly, exit code: 0xC0000005

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table"

Update 3:
I've even uninstalled the game, re-dowloaded/installed it to a different drive - No change.

  • Same thing happens to me. What seems to sometimes fix the problem:

After the game loads, don't immediatly get on the board, try only using the right stick to just move the camera, then go to graphics settings change the graphics preset to low, and upscaling set to native no FSR nothing, then run around for a bit (but dont get on the board) and go back to graphics settings, turn on FSR or XrsS on, ant set the mode to native, and other graphics settings as you desire (I use the ultra preset), after that try getting on the board but dont teleport nowhere for a bit so the map doesnt have to load quick. This fixed the problem for me, but it's not consistent and very unpredictable. The problem is still present and is pretty **bleep**ing annoying.

I tried this, and it gave me a bit more game time, but it seems as soon as a new section of the map is loaded in, it freezes and crashes to desktop.

I noticed a lot of people on steam community discussions are also complaining about this issue...

  • I read a lot of people said disabling Cross-Play fixes a lot of issues, but alas, I tried it now, and the game still crashes.

same here, nothing i've tried has worked. There are so many others talking about the same issue but skate is radio silent. Do you happen to also be stuck near the Orb and/or Grabster Mall?

  • Somehow this has gotten even worse now... now my game crashes straight to desktop from the menu after you loaded in.
BRUH... How do you break a game this badly with an update when it was working 100% fine from day one? 🙄

Yeah pretty much same for me, it got pretty crashy after the update when it used to never crash. Idk what happened between yesterday and now tho but I cannot load into the game anymore, it just crashes to desktop instantly when trying to log in. I managed to get into the world like once out of ten attempts.

  • So after the above, I've been able to play for a few hours without any crashes. 👍
