Skate. on Steam won't boot after Nov 4 Update

ive never had boot problems before now. after todays update, i will click "play" in steam and the splash screen comes up, bottom status bar fills up, then it crashes. no luck

heres what ive tried:

clean install, verify files, restart

any help would be appreciated
