Trying to setup an old lot to be a residential small business and cannot open as it says there is no valid lot and that I should purchase a venue. Did I set this up wrong or am I missing something? A...

Hi!!! I was having this issue as well and it practically ruined my day after I realized I couldn’t turn my lot into a business.
I found the fix I think!
Apparently, this is only happening to lots that were previously listed as a residential rental. You’ll change it to residential but it still doesn’t show up for the lot assignment.
for some reason, this is because the game still thinks the building is listed under residential rental, and essentially puts the building in purgatory.
the fix is to save the lot as a residential, save the lot into your gallery and just replace the lot from there (in manage worlds), so technically the building is fresh and doesn’t have those dirty “residential rental” codes all mucked up in it.
shouldn’t have expected anything less from EA.

This doesn't work for me sadly. Even though I switch it over and save it as a residential, save the lot to my gallery and place it down again (even from manage worlds) as soon as I go into the settings, it has all the previous information from when it was trying to make it a small business saved. For me that means that floor one is the business and two and three is the residential area. It's not clearing out that information switching it over to residential, much in the same way it doesn't seem to be clearing out the fact that the lot used to be retail.
