Can’t follow teen sims to highschool

About a week ago, I was playing the game as usual but when it was time for my teenage Sim to go to high school, I did not receive the message asking if I wanted to follow him. Despite having the 'Follow' option on, I am unable to physically visit the high school and have him attend classes. Oddly enough, despite this inability to follow the Sim, when he is at school, his icon on the bottom right is not greyed-out for some reason.

I tried looking this up and attempted to replicate the suggestions that I found, but with no avail. As a result, I waited a few days and despite this, I am still facing the same issue(s). In addition to the High School Years expansion pack not working properly on my end, so does Get to Work. You see, my Sim's father works in the police officer career and likewise, the 'Follow' option appears to be broken as well for him.

Indeed, I am also unable to send my teenage Sim to his after-school activity, despite pressing the button to go to it as much as possible. For some reason, it won't send him to it. And when I use another Sim in the household to travel or reopen the game, the game makes my teenage Sim leave school.

This is as best as I can explain these issues I have faced -- which have forced me to play the game less as a result. To go into specifics, I play the game through the EA app installed on my HP laptop, which in turn, uses the Windows operating system. This is all I have to provide for the moment.
