Can’t follow teen sims to highschool

A few days ago, I made the grave mistake of trying to follow all three teens to high school (I only just bought HSY a few days ago, and wasn't aware of any bug related to this). 
Only one of them had the progress bar, and when the school day ended, only that sim was allowed to go home. The other two had an exclamation mark, and blinked red. The only option I had was switch control to them, but when I did, I still couldn't bring them home. 

After closing the game a couple of times, I could finally bring them home. This happened on a Wednesday in-game, but the rest of the week they couldn't go to school (were just marked with "day off"). 
The teen I had been able to follow still went to school as normal, but I no longer got the prompt to follow to school. 

The next in-game week, they go to school (rabbithole), but only the teen that's been behaving somewhat normal is greyed out, not the other two. 

I tried testing another family with teens in the save, they also go to rabbithole-school (no follow-prompt).
Even though I  just exited this family without saving, this caused my three teens in main family to leave school, with no option of going back (and lowering their responsibility).

I tried testing on another save, there HSY works as normal and I get the follow to school-prompt. 
So it's just this save, since I tried following all three teens at the same time. 

How can I fix this?
