The only way I was able to fix the “cow and llama stuck in household inventory” problem was to save the family in my library and delete the originals. Then moved them back to their lot from my library. That was the only way I could empty the household inventory. The downside is that the family of 4 Sims, 2 horses, and 1 dog has now lost all their friendship connections. You can easily manipulate their relationships with each other, but all the other Sims, of which there were many, are gone. Yes, you can befriend them again over time, but it's so sad that we have to do that at all to get rid of these stuck animals to be able to buy new ones that will actually then work again.
