This is still a problem.
My sims moved house. They put the cowshed in the household inventory. They clicked on the cow and put him in the inventory. Then they moved house.
In the new house, I placed the cowshed, had the sim click on the cowshed to assign the animal, clicked on the cow to assign her to the shed. but although when I hover the mouse over the shed, it says that it is occupied by an animal, there is no option to call the cow out of the shed. And when I look in the household inventory, it is still there. I have restarted the game, but still get the same result.
I have had this happen before, and keep on getting notices that the animal is old and only has a few pets left, but still no way of getting it out of the inventory.
