Game seems to save but when I go back it did not save (lovestruck XP)

Have been playing OK since Lovestruck though did get some minor bugs such as multiple welcome wagons and some lots not loading. But then it got worse. Had added a new lot and put a new sim in it and ...

I spoke too soon. Returned to game, did not play much, but the family that did not save was back to the same spot they were stuck at before despite the fact that when I played earlier they had been saving. I am trying an even earlier save.
