Grim reaper not reaping

Hello, when my sim has completed the circle of life., they die and everyone is sad, but the Grim reaper either turns up and does nothing or doesn't turn up at all. This then becomes problematic within play as I cannot save any progress beyond this and no one can travel. When I've tried to interact with the Grim reaper, I can't because the 'reaping' hasn't taken place yet.
