Hair and Eye Color Genetics not passed on

I'm playing a Perfect Genetics Challenge that I might have to give up on if the devs have changed how genetics work...

I have a fairy Sim with hot pink hair and the reddish-pink eyes (not one of the new fairy eye colours, it's from the base game set) who is up to 13 kids now and hasn't had one single child with both her hair and eye colour. I use my own genetic unnatural hair colours for little Sims so my kiddos can be born with any of the weird hair colours adults have and over half her children do have her hair colour but not one single child out of 13 has her eye colour.

Most of them have an eye colour that doesn't belong to either parent which strikes me as bugged. The occasional random gene cropping up? Fine, that's normal. But when only about 20% of 13 kids have Dad's eye colour and zero of them have Mom's eye colour, something about that doesn't seem right.

The mom's eye colour is an eye colour available to infants and older Sims and I've double checked the tags for it in S4S. It should be inheritable, as it's set to allow for random.

The reason I suspect the devs broke eye colour genetics in the last patch is because this is my 2nd generation heiress. Her mother was my founder and her third child (my current heiress) was born with both her hair and eye colour. That was before the patch. My heiress has had her children after the patch and suddenly, she's having 13 babies in a row with completely random eye colours that aren't from her or her husband.

Anyone else experiencing this? Can anyone weigh in on what's going on? Is my luck really just that horrible or are my suspicions right?
