Inventory Gone and Images Blank

I just updated my game with the September 18th update and have realised that any none base game items that were in my inventory are completely gone, for example all dog balls in my sims inventory are completely gone and even when I try to buy more they do not appear. This has also impacted all ingame pictures or painting I have in my save as these all appear black now, I'm assuming this may be due to the same issue as the images/pictures in question are the ones that would go in a sims inventory such as camera photograph or painting.
