I have been repeatedly trying to turn the lights on in my sim's house but nothing works. The house remains dark except for some lights that had already been turned on.

Could you please provide the following information
- Are you using mods/cc in your game ? Please remove them and test without them if you do.
I do! I use both mods and CC! I tried playing with the same save after disabling cc and mods and the lights still don't turn on. I tried playing with a different save and they worked fine.
Did you try moving the mods folder to the desktop, delete localthumbcache file and test on a backup of your save or just disabled them in the options ?
I have tried both, and in other households in the world, but the lights don't work only on my sim's lot, which is Parkside Place (starter home) in the Gilbert Gardens neighborhood in San Sequoia. When I enter build mode and place new lights they function properly, but when I turn them off and on in live mode they stop working.
To be sure, in the new save you don't have the issue in the new save at all or did it just work at first and then also stop working ?
Did you also try renaming the entire user folder ?
