New Spectator

My sim turned pitch black and shiny randomly 07-01-2025

Hello this is my first report on here but I was playing a save I’ve had for years and I’ve never had problems with bugs, I’ve never had cc or mods installed but today after the update (July 1st, 2025) & playing for a few hours my sim got really shiny after i exited create a sim. I went back into create a sim thinking I added the new “shiny skin” accessory by accident and then when i exited it was still the same. I then looked online and restarted/repaired my game only to load in and see that my main sim was now fully pitch black AND shiny. I will add that I’ve seen bugs online where the sim is either pitch black or shiny but not both. My sim also has custom tattoos but i am unable to figure out if that is the issue. Once again I use no mods or cc and have almost every pack (minus most of the kits) and I am on PC (Lenovo laptop, Windows 11). Please help as I am not very tech savvy & my fiancé has already tried looking through the files and whatnot. </3 :(

I’ve attached photos of my main sim affected below thanks again. If this is a bug on EA’s part I really hope this is fixed soon.

EDIT: I’ve noticed as well that when I go to manage worlds none of my other sims are affected however, my sim that is only just has the shiny glitch. I have added a photo of that as well hopefully I can figure this out soon.

EDIT 2: okay my other townies that I do not play have been affected by the pitch black glitch as well what da heck ea.

this happened to one of my sims too. do any of your sims have tattoos that’s been drawn on or anything? if so, try removing them and it should fix the problem. it worked for me!

Having this issue as well. It's affecting my Sims and pets (specifically the ones with painted details al la Pugowned).

The newest update broke tattoos I guess, same happened to me to all of my sims with tattoos. You have to go to cas and remove them and the sims skin should go back to to original color. This game is so broken sigh..

Thank you for this thread because I panicked when I loaded my game and saw both sims were pitch black on the home screen! They both have custom tattoos 😭😭 I hate that I have to remove them now in order for them to be unglitched

Does your sim have a tatoo by any chance? There's an error on selfmade tatoos, that makes the sims turn into a black void. Remove the tatoo and she'll return to normal.

Must be an error in the painting system in cas. My sim also turned into a black void after I added a self-created tatoo. When I removed the tatoo, she went back to normal again.

I've encountered the same issue, it was okay after the update but today when one of my sims aged up child to teen it started happening :(. My sim had no tattoos, I thought it was an outadated CC like a skin overlay, but even after removing all my cc and mods it continued to happen. My sims had the growing together freckles and after I remove it the glossy glitch seemed to disapeard. I think it may have something to do with the new skin effect they added it recently.
