Play/speed buttons don’t work when baking/cooking

Every time my sims bake or cook a meal, the buttons for pause/play/speed doesn’t work properly, either they don’t work at all or they lag/get stuck and I have to keep pressing them for them to work.

Like if I press ultra speed, it’ll take an extra few seconds to work, and then when I press play to go back to normal speed, I have to press it twice and on the second time, it stays on ultra speed for a few more seconds, sometimes longer before finally going back to normal speed. And it makes my game lag and while this is happening, my sims are just standing there not doing anything, staring into space.

It only happens when my sims bake or cook. other than that, the buttons work fine.

I don’t play with mods or CC.

    Hi crinrict :)

Yes, it happens with all of them, I tried two new saves and it still happens. I’m trying a game repair right now, I’ll let you know if it works.

  • HI xLilacSims

    Try the following

    - Close the game
    - Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    - Repair the game
    - Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry.
    - Start a new save game
    - Check if you still have the error
    - Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

crinrict  I followed all your steps and it worked!

There’s no more lag or glitching when my sims are baking or cooking or doing anything that has to do with cooking, and all the buttons are working. Even the box that pops up to choose what to cook is opening wayyy faster!

Thank you so much for your help! Do you think it will be okay to add my old tray folder back into the new sims folder?

    Hi xLilacSims

You can now start to copy back things from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder that was created.

First only copy (I suggest to copy so you can go back in case anything goes wrong along the way) the content of the folder Saves (these are your save games). If you are prompted if want to overwrite a save, decide if you want to keep that testing save you just made or not. If not, just overwrite if, if you want to keep it, rename the save to a different number that isn't taken.

Test just your save game with nothing else added back. If that works, you can start copying back the rest. If not, check back.

You will need the following folders

    - Tray (your households and lots you have saved to library)- Custom Music (if you added any)
    - Screenshots (if you've taken any)
    - Videos (if you've taken any)
    - ConfigOverride (if you made any although I recommend redoing those)
    - Options(.ini) (although I recommend to just redo your settings in the game)

Now test again. If that still works, you can put back your mods. Put them back in groups and make sure they are still compatible with the game.

All other files are recreated and not needed.

…I guess I spoke too soon earlier lol

It’s working better than before though because now there are animations happening when my sims cook instead of them just standing there staring into space.

But the buttons are still stuck and glitching, not pausing or speeding up when I click them and keyboard controls (0-3) don’t work at all while my sims are cooking, I have to click the pause/speed buttons with my mouse, the keyboard is not an option.

And like before, as long as my sims aren’t cooking, all controls work as they should and the game runs fine.  But when they’re cooking, the buttons don’t work and the game is glitchy…it’s so weird lol

Also, I didn’t add anything back into my game, I’m playing it totally vanilla.
