Sim can't resume writing

When my Sim tries to resume writing a book, the action in the queue appears then zooms forward as if completed within a few seconds then my sim just moves on to another task. Can't complete writing a book. I have tried scrapping the book then starting again. Have not left the lot. Have tried restarting. Game is up to date, I don't have any mods.
