I have been having this issue where I load into a game and can play normally for 2 minutes then all of a sudden I can't click anything. The only responsive controls is the analog stick. This has been an issue for the past week I have tried playing. I have even tried different save files and the issue persists.

I have been having this issue along with many other players where game controls totally become unresponsive and stop working after loading up any save in the game. Game and console both are updated but it hasnt helped despite console restart and switching to any other save slots.
Sometimes when in a menu (like the fridge or getting a call from a child) the game wont register that a button is being pushed. The joystick works fine (can move selections) but you cant select or back out of any choices. Also cant switch sims, save, etc. Only way to fix it is the restart the console. Controller works fine outside of the sims game, so I really dont think its a hardware issue. Its been happening once in awhile for about a year, but it happened 5 times in the last 2 days. It makes the game almost unplayable.
This has been happening to me as well! I can load and play for 2 minutes then my buttons are unresponsive.
Much like other players have reported, for the last 3 days at least, my game will play fine for s while and then freeze when I go to choose an interaction. The game itself continues to happen, but the screen freezes on the interaction choices. I am able to move between the interactions but not choose any or back out of interactions.
I can also not open options, the map, or do anything else such as open the search box/cheatbox. Game is unable to be saved and nothing has seemed to work so far. I’ve seen multiple people complaining of the same thing on Reddit!
I CAN ONKY PLAY MY GAME OFF LINE. Which is fine by me. That said, my saves old,and new lose controller function after 15 mins in game. I did all.the "fixes" none of them stuck. So I am now playing the game off line with no problems!

Im experiencing this right now as well. Floating menu whenever I try to get a sim to perform an action and it's just stuck there. Can't even access the start button or console or anything! Happens within 5 mins of loading the game. I literally can't progress.
On another thread someone said it was the market place ad bubble causing it.
I just tested it, they are 100% right! The intrusive market place ad bubble is the culprit!
If I avoid the pop up bubble ad in the upper right corner like the plague, I can play all night.
The second I scroll the cursor over it to get it to go away (which we are all doing constantly now because it is completely in the way of seeing all the notifications that pop up that we need to be able to read), the very next time I go into any radial menu it freezes up.
I REALLY hope they fix this soon. It's extremely frustrating constantly trying to not accidentally scroll over that ad bubble, and even more frustrating to have to play with it covering all the notifications that I need to read!
This is happening to me on the PS5, too. With just under $100 of DLC, an unplayable game is utterly unacceptable.
