Sims 4: Parents unable to interact with child directly

My sims had a kid together and things were going smoothly until toward the end of infant stage. Things were fine in infant stage at first until one day I went to one of the adult sims and clicked on their infant child. 

The only option available was "More Choices..." which would take me to actions, and nothing else. I exited and saved my save and had the game repair itself. The issue still continued.

I thought that maybe if I aged up their kid that the problem would go away, but the problem still happened when they were both a toddler and child. The kid can interact with the parents but the parents were unable to interact with their kid. 

This has been happening for the past week.
