most of my sims do the same thing.
it's ruined relationships. happy, loving marriages torn apart by this tomfoolery.

"Claim to be criminal mastermind" is a mischievous deception interaction. The sim is trying to scare people as a joke. It's not specific to evil or criminal sims. It is associated with the Goofball trait, level 2+ Mischief skill, and playful moodlets. Do these sims have the Goofball trait, or mischief skill, or were they in a playful mood?
If none of those three factors apply, what you're seeing might be a part of a larger bug.

Only one of my sims has the goofball trait but this interaction was seen amongst all my sims. They do have some mischief skill (presumably due to the constant mischievous interactions they perform for reasons unknown) but not above level 3. They are sometimes in a playful mood but not always. The main issue is that the "claim to be criminal mastermind" interaction is near constant, every single conversation, multiple times per conversation. It's not normal, there's defo something up with the mischievous interactions in general but this one is particularly annoying.
