Sims obsessively use objects

I've realised that once my sims use the bar in their house once, that's it, it's like they "found" it and the bug resumes as normal with them obsessively using it until I remove it. I didn't notice how bad the computer bug was until my recent playthrough where I have a sim who hates playing video games. He autonomously goes to play a game on the PC because it seems like not much else is coded for "fun", and then he makes himself miserable because of it. Sims just aren't autonomously productive with certain items like these in the house. I have the same issue with sunbathing towels from Island Living, sims always autonomously using it, even worse for them when the weather is extreme.
