Sims won't stay in bed

I haven't had this issue for quite some time after performing an app recovery.  I have been playing the same save since before and after the last update with still no problems sleeping.  I opened a new save today and a single, never married, living alone sim won't sleep.  Hops right up like he's full energy but depleted.  I've been using Make Happy constantly.  I've done two app recoveries, restarting the app after the last one.  I'm on a Mac, don't and never used mods.  

Desperate; I also did the things I know won't work, like resetting sim and bed, and replacing the bed with a new one.  I even reset marriages even though he's never been married.   This guy hasn't been around for long if you don't count sitting in an unplayed save.  These seemingly little quirks are irritating in gameplay.  I come here to destress.
