EA Background Services On Startup & Close?
"EA Background Service" for my computer is showing up on my task manager on my computer after turning it on for the morning, without even starting anything EA-related. The app is not open, Epic is not open, Xbox, B.net, nothing related to it at all is open and yet this is still on my task manager for some reason when I restart my computer. I have no startup programs that would cause this. It's also set to "manual" in my services, yet it started up on its own before any prompt, like a spyware or malware program would. It also does not close when I close the EA App, and I have background services off entirely. Please help me fix this. It seems no one has found a fix for this for years and years, and people keep asking for help on it, and nothing works.Exception Breakpoint
Hello, I'm currently encountering a mild issue: every time I shut down my PC after playing The Sims 4, a pop-up window appears telling me that an exception breakpoint has been reached. The title of the window indicates it is being prompted by EADesktop, which is found in the EA app files, not The Sims game files, so I am assuming it's a problem with that application. I'm not sure I can get a screenshot of the error message, since it's interrupting the shutdown process when it occurs, but I will attach a DxDiag.txt file below. The error code I'm getting is 0x80000003 (which seems to be the common code for this error) and it occurs at location 0x00007FFC0292D8E1 (or, at least, it did the time that I wrote down the details). I have since uninstalled and reinstalled both the EA app and The Sims 4 at least twice each, and I continue to encounter the issue, but I haven't checked if the error location is the same. It doesn't affect anything once the "OK" button or the "X" is pressed as far as I can tell, but it is an at first alarming and then annoying interruption to the normal shutdown process. In terms of troubleshooting, I've done the following: Repair files for EA application + The Sims 4 files, shutdown: issue persists; Disable run on startup for EA application, end EA tasks in Task Manager, use PC for light tasks (Firefox ~15 minutes) without using EA app or The Sims 4, shutdown: no issue encountered; Boot up PC, use for light gaming (Civ V for ~1 hour), shutdown: no issue encountered; Boot up PC, play The Sims 4 as normal, then shutdown: issue persists. Uninstall EA application + The Sims 4, check shutdown + restart quality without EA app installed: no issue encountered; Reinstall EA application + The Sims 4, shutdown + restart with EA app installed, without using EA app or The Sims 4: no issue encountered; Play as normal, then shutdown: issue persists; Boot up PC, check remaining storage and memory: looks okay to me, but I'm no expert. Refer to the attached DxDiag.txt file to make an independent judgement. Run mdsched + restart to check for memory leaks: no problems detected; Open the Sims 4, close the application, check Task Manager and end EA background processes, then shut down: no issue encountered. My current conclusion: Issue is related to the EA application and only the EA application, which is engaged on some level every time The Sims 4 runs. Because the EA application continues to run in the background/system tray even after closing the window, its background processes continue running until ended directly in Task Manager (which does not produce an error code) or indirectly by the shutdown process, which is where the pop-up occurs. Best guess: even the clean, new-in-box EA application background processes currently include a fragment of code with a debugging breakpoint that triggers when the program is "unexpectedly interrupted", producing a pop-up window which only allows the user to terminate the program, which, incidentally, is what the shutdown process is already doing, and what most users expect the "X" on the application window to have already done. Other, related advice I've seen but haven't tried: Run chkdsk as administrator to find and repair potential hard drive issues; Check for driver updates. Some kind of registry change to prevent EA from running in the background after being closed out? Though I have technically been able to locate the problem and a workaround, I would love to find a solution that doesn't require me to open Task Manager after every session of the Sims, so if you have any thoughts, please advise. This post has been written without the use of AI, and I would prefer not to be given answers produced by genAI. Thanks![UPDATE] EA app Friends List, Invites, Cross-Play — What's Going On
Hi all, For last few weeks, the right side of the EA app is in indefinite loading screen. My profile pic, status and friend list are a part of this infinite loading screen, PFA. Because of this, in game friends who are online don't show up as well as I don't show as Online for my friends. I have no issue playing the game but I am no longer able to play with my friends. Tried the following but nothing helped: App uninstall and re-install. Delete reg edit entries, clear local data after EA uninstall and reinstall. Delete Apex legends and EA app, delete all involved folders, local data, reg edit entries and reinstall. Restart router. Also tried installing EA app in D: drive(custom location) but it keeps installing in C: drive. Not sure if this helps though.17KViews41likes398CommentsEA App "Open on startup" toggle broken; no entry in Task Manager
Bug Report Form Application: EA App (Desktop Client) Platform: Windows 10 / Windows 11 Component: Application Settings → Startup Behavior Severity: High (User control violation, unintended persistence) Status: Unresolved Description: The "Open on startup" toggle switch within the Application Settings interface is non-functional. When the user attempts to disable the setting, the toggle either reverts to the "enabled" state immediately upon leaving the settings menu or fails to prevent the EA App from launching automatically after system reboot or user logon. Expected Behavior: Disabling the "Open on startup" option should prevent the EA App from launching automatically during system startup. The setting should persist across application restarts and system reboots. Actual Behavior: • The toggle appears interactive but produces no persistent effect. • The EA App continues to launch on startup regardless of the setting state. • No corresponding entry exists in Windows Task Manager → Startup tab to manually disable the behavior. • Setting the "EA Background Service" in services.msc to Manual or Disabled does not resolve the issue; the application circumvents this control. • The application re-initializes startup persistence mechanisms without user consent. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install EA App. 2. Launch EA App. 3. Navigate to Settings → Application. 4. Locate the "Open on startup" toggle. 5. Set the toggle to the off (disabled) position. 6. Close the settings window and exit EA App completely. 7. Restart the system or log out and log back in. 8. Observe that EA App launches automatically despite the setting being disabled. Troubleshooting Performed: • Uninstalled EA App completely. • Restarted the system. • Reinstalled EA App fresh. • Repeated the steps above. • Issue persists after clean installation. Additional Context: The application exhibits behavior consistent with unauthorized persistence mechanisms commonly associated with unwanted software. Specifically: • The startup setting cannot be modified through standard user-accessible controls. • The application bypasses Windows-native startup management tools (Task Manager Startup tab). • The application ignores service-level configuration changes intended to limit background execution. This lack of user control over application behavior raises significant usability and compliance concerns, particularly regarding system resource management and user consent under standard software transparency expectations. Suggested Fix: • Restore functionality to the "Open on startup" toggle to reliably enable or disable automatic launch behavior. • Ensure the setting respects Windows Startup API standards, registering or deregistering a startup entry in the appropriate registry path or shell startup folder. • Remove any undocumented or override mechanisms that re-enable startup behavior without explicit user authorization. System Information: • OS: Windows 11 Pro (25H2) • EA App Version: 13.661.0.6174 (106694-85bc9572a9) • Account Type: Local Administrator84Views2likes1CommentRestore ability to hide games in library
Since you just closed 4 year old topic suggesting restoring basic functionality (that was present in origin) here I am to create new one. Please restore ability to hide games or remove them from account. This is very important for games that are demos, betas or no longer available Why do I have to watch Bejeweled 3 every time I want to find battlefield in my library? Why do I have to watch ea sports madden nfl just because I clicked on wrong tile while I had EA Play and it was instantly added to my account? I cannot even play it, it requires me to purchase subscription again (tile is grayed out) so I really have no idea why is it even visible in my library... I want to hide all these ugly mistakes and keep my library clean. It would be plus if I could add tags or group games into custom groups but just this basic functionality of hiding games and optionally removing them from account would be great.367Views5likes8CommentsHow do I make a shortcut to game in my library after installation?
As question asks. In my experience creating a shortcut directly to the .exe causes issues so I'm assuming that's not a viable option. I'm not seeing any other option in the launcher to create a shortcut though, so... where is it? It's not seriously only available on first installation, is it?Solved196Views1like4CommentsI got double charged. Help me

Hi EA Staff and Feedback gathers, App works well does what it has to do and operates perfectly. Yet I feel a bit disappointed in whomever decided to change the icon color. Plainly this new icon does no pop, its boring, casual, no color, no essence, its getting totally outshined by my "battle.net" Icon. Please, go back to the Orange icon as the blue is dull and unappealing. Thank You.244Views1like1Comment
