Re: Problem with sticker shop, and a much needed change
I see what people are saying about completion. Yes, I personally would like to finish everything but that isn't why I suggest thinking twice. The fact that there is such a difference between content in GW1 vs GW2 shows a clear transition towards microtransactions through prolonged gameplay. (Making things take longer to almost force people without insane amounts of time to buy currency.) It seems sorta clear that they have this bottleneck on purpose and that is a scummy thing to do. (Otherwise, why 2 years in is it not fixed?)
My personal issue with this type of practice is these features often aren't present and launch and are added later. In a way, tricking people into believing they are buying something they aren't. They just need to get you "on the line" before pulling you in. Take for example RUX, who has 131 items yet increases the total coins to a completed stickerbook by 66%. These aren't always things people can just ignore either. Some of the abilities are unquestionably better and most are situationally better. All of this was added in an update. Had I been trying to get the complete stickerbook at the time it would have been a real kick to the groin. (I joined about 6 months after RUX appeared.) Point being, I see GW2 in its final days as an indicator of how GW3 will start and from there likely get worse. It wouldn't surprise me if GW3 starts off as GW1 did, only to devolve into P2W the game. (GW2 hasn't hit that point but I have a strong feeling GW3 will finally cross that line.) While I know I will be punished by missing out of something limited time only, I would rather wait and see what GW3 ends up as before buying. The problem for Popcap is if other people think like me it will show in their launch sales.
