Re: Launcher stuck on "initializing"

@Massena777

Try to add launcher.exe and swtor.exe to your anti-virus / firewall safe list in case they are blocking or deleting files.  You can even disable them to see if it works.

If it still freezes, do the following:

1. Run the launcher and log in.
2. Open the task manager on your computer (shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
3. Select the Processes tab. On Windows 7, sort by image name and look for any starting with "br", they should be listed as belonging to Bitraider in the description column. In Windows 8.1, scroll down to the Background Processes and look for any Bitraider listings. Right click and end them. Don't worry if they come back.
4. Select the Services tab. In Windows 7, click on the button in the lower right corner that says Services. In 8.1, click the link at the bottom that says Open Services.
5. In the Services window, sort the list by the Name column, and look for BitRaider Mini-Support Service. Right click on it and select properties.
6. On the General tab, about halfway down, there should be a dropdown menu that says Startup type. Make sure it is set to "Automatic". Hit Apply the OK.
7. Close the Services window, the task manager, and the game launcher. Then restart the launcher after you restart your computer.

If that works then what you can do is remove the bitraider as this is what may be getting stuck.  However if you choose to remove bitraider NOTE this is a complete download of the game again but you may avoid this issue in the future.  If you wish to do this then do the following:

right mouse click on game shortcut and select open file location

open the launcher.settings file in notepad and locate the below line and edit to the below

, "PatchingMode": "{ \"swtor\": \"SSN\" }"
, "bitraider_disable": true

SAVE the changes.
Delete the BitRaider, Movie and Asset folders then start the launcher.

  • I already tried the bitraider solution also, that didn't work either. Any other suggestions besides a complete re-install of game?

  • Update: I uninstalled the game and attempted to re-install it, but the downloader was also stuck on initializing. the last time I played was before 10/28. On 10/28 I downloaded Microsoft updates and later got github for desktop. Could one of these be the problem?

I'm not familiar with github, the only thing on that one is uninstall it and then see if the downloader still gets stuck.  If so look at what microsoft updates were installed specifically on 10/28.  If any of them were extra software or something besides security updates try removing that.

Lastly what is your anti-virus that your using?  Did you disable it?

If you have uninstalled the game make the changes at this link and see if the error is gone

You mentioned the bitraider side but havent confirmed full disable as belgorad detailed earlier

  • The problem may be solved by using the BR -> SSN and bitraider disable - > true. Game is downloading after I applied those changes and launched the launcher.
