Re: Sims 4 Sports Tournaments Expansion Pack

As I am a fan of the Olympics, every four years I have high hopes that the developers get inspired and give us a Sport Expansion Pack.
I know that programming multi-sim interactions and animations is very difficult, but I am not expecting EA Fifa quality gameplay.

There could be just refinement for the existing sports objects/animations we already have.

- Equestrian - get the horse competitions out of the Rabbit Hole, -add some official riding boots and white breaches to CAS.
- Swimming (in pool) - add working lap guides, and line dividers, jumping blocks. - add official sporty swimming suits, swimming caps, and glasses to CAS.
- Basketball - extend the half court to a full one. Invent a sim-plified sport (like 2x2 basketball)

- Open water swimming - could make use for uneditable water around the world, place "guidelines" into the water, so the sims would sim in an orderly fashion.

- Cycling Mountain Bike - use the vast amount of uneditable areas around the world, place track markers on the road, so they would cycle properly.
- Free up "Spar" from Military career, sell it as Simwondo, add some matching outfits and accessories, and make a Simwondo mat (like with a dancefloor)

- Free up Boxing from the bag, and let Sims box with each other. Add boxing shorts, gloves, and helmets to CAS.
- Soccer - give more function to that soccer ball -add a soccer goal, invent a simplified game (3x3 soccer), boots, more and more jerseys to CAS. (You made me very happy with the EA sports jerseys)
- Rugby - give more function to that rugby ball/ American futball add rugby/american football field looking items, invent a simplified game. (3x3 rugby) matching bits to CAS.
- Tabletennis - it is there! Just need to add it as Competition. Add to Club activities.

- Running - long distance ones could take place in the world - place track markers and off we go. Running suits to CAS.

As I pointed out, I would not add more large amount of people sort of team games, knowing that is complicated. I would add 1 to 1 sports, for example

- Tennis, needs rackets, net, CAS items.

There are many many sports that does not need sims to directly interact with each other:
- Weightlifting (new object, CAS items)
- Archery (new object, CAS items)
- Diving (new animations)
- Athletics - any throwing event, here again could be a new event invented - plumbob throw, for example.

-Track running, we need a track to run on.

- Golf - could use again the vast unused areas in the world.
- Skateboarding - needs "obstacles, and tricks, but the actual park could be built by players.

- Climbing - could be released from the fitness pack object, it would be something you could place on any wall.

- Gymnastic - invent a new sim apparatus for all genders and frame and merge related sports.

There would/could be a new world I reckon, to accommodate fields, tracks, pools, and other venues involved. But also in an update the existing worlds could have new cycling/running/riding (same as hiking) markers added to them. The University Stadium could come out of the rabbit hole and give space for matches (added to the calendar as a festival) It may even be customizable by the player - is it a rugby field, soccer, or tennis court?

We would have all sorts of sports uniforms, shoes, and caps/helmets. Making sure tops and bottoms have matching colour swatches... Pieces of equipment for the athletes. Decorative Crowd Item, you can put around, and a proper spectator seating area, where real sims can sit, too.

The competition part could use some of the elements from the spicy food contest/ finchwick contest/ geek con contest mechanism. With individuals could be max 5 contestants per event.

With team sports, there could be seasons. Your sim should enter one competition at least per Season(spring summer autumn winter), end of the year the winner is announced.
Winning the game would depend on the level of Skill, level of general Fitness, Mood (Very focused and Very confident is a bonus), and health even, less chance to win if you have an acute llama flu. Or itchy plumbob. Or else.

Also EA could reward us with flags - we have the mesh already for the Pride flags - and just need swatches, country flags for us, players from all over the world.

I faked a couple of pictures - these are tricked ones and obviously without a crowd to cheer. But please enjoy and get inspired.

This thread is definitely inspired by current sports news.

One thing I believe everyone would like is the prestigious outlook on sims participating in the "Tournaments" aspect of the sports focus.

    Allow me to explain.

Tournaments would be considered where every sport has a high skilled and ranking sim compete against other high skilled and ranking sims. Earning medals from silver, bronze and gold.

Think of it as the best competitors competing against each other aside from their normal tournament games. Emphasis on 'normal tournament games' versus 'tournaments'.

Also, I would really like the aspect of the Tournaments expansion to highlight the importance of training and skills along with the 'Tournaments' part of gameplay. Few active practices and low game performance consuming tournaments.

The whole idea is centered about current sports news, but mostly focused on shedding light on sims who will compete against each other with high skills.

Dev's can even introduce a new Talent related trait system similar to that of the discovery traits through gameplay. Along with the Talent related traits influencing skill gain in specific sports skills.

@darula4u I was not arguing 😃I would go mad for a Tournament expansion pack. And it to be integrated with existing packs. Like Get Famous and Get Together. ⚽🏈🏀

I was only trying to explain in-depth, definitely all friendly here!

Also, I love your images of the Sims in potential competing gestures. It brings to life exactly what we'd like to see!

Wouldn't we all love to cheer our sims on in a sports tournament leading up to the huge tournaments challenge!

I know. Keep discussing. Keep explaining. Keep arguing 🥳 I want these ideas presented to the developers. Get us in-depth sports events! While I was trying to shoot a swimming competition picture, I went crazy, they did not swim in line, regardless of me setting the lap markers on the bottom. Or I could not find a sporty swimming suit for the female body. Or even in a Club gathering, using a bike is not an option... it is an option, Bike here together, my sim was riding everybody else was jogging. And of course, ruined that picture as well, when before running, they all changed out of their carefully set up Club outfit into their random athleticware... Never work with Sims, useless bunch 😉

Experientially speaking per patch notes and fixes, I know the Dev's have exactly what it takes to properly execute such an amazing expansion pack.

I'm sure swimming in lines, jogging in lines or even having a sim play basketball on a 1 on 1 will be easy for the Dev's. Considering we have many existent features in game that already highlight the potential for a Sports Tournaments Expansion.

Keep the photos coming, I'd love to see more!

@MazsolaCsibi  Your diving examples are great! Not only did I understand this as a 1-v-1 example, but your images remind me that synchronized swimming and synchronized diving could also be a possibility to include in a sports pack.

Gameplay objects would need to be a major feature to properly code a racing mechanic. Swim lanes would be objects that snap together. A running track would be needed (with upgrades for hurdles) for jogging, sprinting, relay. Field sports would require their own placible objects. A gymnastics tumble mat (10x10) for floor routines. A gymnastics tumble track (2x14) for Cartwheels, Somersault, Round-Offs, etc. A soccer goal object for 1-v-1 shootouts (ref Sims 3). Weightlifting Squat Rack object.

The way that I could imagine the Sims 4 implementing a Sports pack is with emphasis on training and practice to prepare for rabbithole tournaments - just like horse competitions (Sims 3 & 4). Not ideal, but works within the limits of Sims 4 coding. For this, it'd be new and unique to see a bracket system be instituted for a Tournament mechanic.

To round-out a Sports pack, emphasis could be on Sports Culture:

    • Tailgate parties
    • 1-v-1 contests
    • Youth sports
    • Coaching
    • Training & performance
    • Competitive personality
    • Sportsmanship
    • Physical therapy

I could see a new skill being introduced: Athletics (Sport Ability). Not to be confused with Fitness. Was a skill in Sims 3.

    Fitness

    • Improve Strength
    • Improve Speed
    • Physique
    • Endurance (Energy Need)
    • Reduce Injury

Athletics = How well do you play sports?

    • Reduce failure rate / clumsiness
    • Improve Competition Success Rate (tournament and 1v1 contests)
    • Improve Jump Height
    • Improve Jump Length
    • Improve Agility
    • Unlock Styles and Techniques:
      • Stretches
      • Jump Rope
      • Gymnastic Flips & Leaps
      • Hurdles
      • Bodybuilding Flexes & Poses
      • Swimming Styles

New Community Lot Type: Athletics Center

    • On-site NPCs: Sports Trainer & Physical Therapist
    • Sims will autonomously seek out and play sport activities here. Hone the Athletics Skill. Challenge other Sims to a race or contest, or Sims may challenge you!
    • Increase the frequency of autonomous interactions with Sports Equipment (Basketball Hoop, Soccer Goal, Soccer Ball, Football, jump rope, Gymnastics mat, etc)
    • Ages Teen+ will spawn

There's also the possibility to include a Physical Therapist career to help with training, recovery and to pass a physical for Tournaments ("Clear for Competition"). I go into this idea further in another forum post about a Sports Pack:

@Vyo4I love all of your ideas! This is quite astonishing knowing what simmers are capable of bringing to the table.

Although I must mention again, it would be quite amazing to at least be able to attend small tournaments based on which sport it is. I'm sure there's a way to include one or two sports that can be watched by the player during normal tournaments.

Athletics Center's would be an amazing addition especially with the potential for there to be lot traits that attract sims who are athletes and currently enrolled into sports.

Along with the Athletics skill. I love the idea of this skill being introduced to the Sims 4. Along with Sportsmanship being another skill, or sportsmanship being a part of the new Talent trait system that a sim can gain after spending quite a time being successful in normal tournaments.

Is there anyone capable of creating a graphical illustration of what the new UI tournaments could look like?

I am imagining there is a tab with the team a sim is currently enrolled with, the rank they hold in their team, team players (up to 4?), how many medals your sim has won and whether they're silver, bronze or gold, skills pertaining to the sport they're in and training days.

    Just a few ideas.

Also, a physical therapist career would be a great inclusion for a pack like this. Not to mention there could be an added modality to the massage table for Athletes.

I so would like to know what other people like best, what kind of sport would you like to see in the game?

@MazsolaCsibiSwimming and Gymnastics for sure, Basketball and Soccer would be great too as these are all sports that are currently in game that can be expanded on. Except Gymnastics isn't in the game at all.

Sports-wise, I can easily see Weightlifting or Powerlifting, Marathon Running, Competitive/Synchronized Swimming and Diving, Long Jump, Running, Sprinting, Hurdles, and Gymnastics for a Sports Pack.

For a Sports Pack focused on Tournaments, a cute Cats & Dogs cross-pack addition that makes use of the Pet Training Skill and Pet Obstacles is a Pet Agility Competition rabbithole event.

I think Gymnastics should not be too difficult to add. I would pick 5 apparatus and made it available for both gender/frame. I mean Beam and HIgh Bar for all. And Vault and Pommel Horse and Rings. That would mean 5 new objects, with the matching 10 Leveled Skills and Animations.Use the Pre-exercise stretch and chalk  your hands like with rock climbing.  Would not even take up that much space. Custom Gymnastics Arena could be built by players, using the objects and decor.

I would rather vote for separate Skills for every single new sport-branches. Like with Skiiing and Rock climbing and Snowboarding. Experience Level, which would separate Amateurs and Professionals could work like Reputation or Celebrity level gauge. You have to get certain tasks done before you can advance to Professional Events. Also there could be a new generic skill, like Athletics, and like with Gourmet Cooking and Cooking, it would only open once you reached Fitness Level 5.

Joining a Team could work like Joining a Club, or rather an Organisation. There would be Tasks to do every week, so you would gain experience, join pro events, and win medals.
I do not mind if that takes time - I am a player for Long lifespan, and I want activities to really get involved with deeply.

Same I could imagine with Field and Track Events. High Jump and Vertical Jump also do not need an extreme amount of space. Although Devs love HUGE objects. (Cookie Machine, outdoor water slides and so on)

I just discovered, Jogging is not among the Club activities. 😢

I am in awe by your photos!! Those are the most representative photos of what the gestures or actions could look like in game for the Sports Tournaments Expansion Pack.

I really love that every sim is synchronized in swimming. Definitely shows how well they can execute this, even if you were able to.

I truly hope the Sims team, authentically believe in an expansion like this as its features and gameplay would add so much to the game itself.

I can feel prestige running through my sims veins lol.

Love your photos and the way you were able to pose the Sims, kudos to your hard-work! I love the photos of the Sims both basketball and swimming!
