Re: I Purchased The Disc, Why Did It Start A Download Online Thru Origin?

@t9clsv  Origin is a requirement to run Sims 4, and you'll need to sign in before playing.  That's among the requirements listed for Sims 4 both online and on the boxes that contain retail discs.

However, the game itself can be played entirely offline.  If you put Origin in offline mode before launching, you shouldn't have any negative effects of losing a connection; you could even take your computer offline and it wouldn't make a difference.

It's also usually possible to launch Origin and the game while your computer is offline.  Two caveats: one is that you may need to launch Sims 4 from its shortcut first, at which point Origin will ask you to sign in and then let the game load.  The other is that if you clear Origin's cache (or have a cleaner app that does the same thing), you'll need to have a connection to sign in again, so Origin can authenticate your account details.

Thank you very much for your prompt response! I saw that I could choose to play in offline mode when perusing the menus in Origin and checked it, but maybe I was supposed to save that choice, i may have neglected to do that. Why did it download the game instead of installing it from the disc?

  • @t9clsv  The version of Sims 4 on your disc may be outdated enough that Origin went straight to redownloading.  Or maybe it did use the disc but there was a significant amount of data (in terms of updates) that needed to be downloaded as well.  Or maybe Origin was being extra annoying.  It should have installed from disc, but it doesn't always work that way.
