help a gal build her dream pc for sims 4 (please)

Sul Sul Simmers (or maybe not all simmers?)

I'm currently on a quest to build my dream custom gaming pc, specifically for playing Sims.

At the moment, I currently play on a MSI GS63 Stealth Gaming Laptop, Intel CORE i7, 64 GB.

She was a lovely Christmas gift from my mom in 2017. I take it to get serviced twice a year (to keep things clean), and while I have an external harddrive for my mods and custom content, you can only imagine the strain (and the heat) it goes through. 😳

I'm new to the world of pc building, so everything is very intimidating to me ngl. I'm not a streamer and I'm not looking to record anything. I just want a PC that can handle medium to high graphic settings, a good cooling system, Microsoft OS, and can run smoothly with a high FPS. (also in the color white if possibly, but not really that important)

Budget is flexible, though I'm trying to keep everything under $2,500.

Any suggestions for parts would be extremely helpful and valuable.

Thank you ♥

    @RegularRaven

As you are aiming for a "Dream PC", the following are the recommended specs rather than the minimum:

    • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 10
    • Processor: Intel Core i5 (4 cores) or faster, AMD Ryzen 5 or better
    • Memory (RAM): 8 GB RAM
    • Hard drive (free space): At least 50 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
    • DVD drive: DVD-ROM drive required for installation from disc only
    • Graphics card (video): 1 GB of Video RAM, NVIDIA GTX 650, AMD Radeon HD 7750, or better
    • Direct X version: DirectX 11 Compatible
    • Input: Keyboard and mouse
    • Internet connection: Required for game activation and optional for game updates

    Thanks.

  • And whichever one you decide to go with - go check YouTube reviews on it and add "gaming" to the search. You'll find many YouTubers that review specific systems and how they are at gaming. 🙂

  • @RegularRaven Do you want to build the computer, or would you rather buy a prebuilt model, or perhaps a custom build, if the price is right?  Is your budget in U.S. dollars or some other currency?  Does this include a monitor?

I will say that you can get a computer that's overpowered for Sims 4, plus a very nice monitor, for a lot less than $2,500 U.S.  By "overpowered" I mean "will run all Sims 4 content on ultra settings without coming close to maxing out any of the components."  So if you have any other preferences, for example you want a white system, please let me know.  If you're building your own or ordering a custom system, you can get pretty much whatever you want, but there's still plenty of variety in the prebuilt category as well.

Please disregard the official minimum and recommended specs.  They're for the base game only, or the base game plus one expansion at a time, and they've barely been updated since Sims 4 was released.  They also don't represent how demanding the game currently is.

  • I'm interested in recommendations as well! I would like to buy pre-built though. I play MMOs and Sims 4 as well as work in Adobe Creative Suite. Lately the storage I have isn't cutting it. I would prefer to spend $1k if possible but up to $2k would be doable.

Interested to hear what other people play on!

  • @Aygeia  Is this $1k U.S. or some other currency?

My computers (laptop and desktop) are overkill for Sims games because I also play more demanding games, so I'm not necessarily a good source.  I can ask other people to share if you'd like; just let me know what kind of details you'd want.

  • Hi Barry,

Thank you so much for giving me this information!

I'll keep all of these statistics in mind when shopping around for parts ♥

Currently, I'm already on a gaming pc, but as you mentioned i'm well past base game only so yeah--I am looking to make something a little bit stronger and on the custom side.

I'm at the stage where I'm doing research on different parts before I commit to buying.

@RegularRaven  Let me know if you have any specific questions or want a second opinion on what you've picked out.  I'll be around.
