- DarthValtrex6 years agoHero (Retired)@bosourd It’s a good way to run people off. There is nothing worse for a company than making the consumer feel like they got taken advantage of.
I don’t know why so many US companies are pulling these kind of gimmicks. If I tried this at my business I’d be bankrupt in a matter of months. One or my competitors did stuff like that, he’s bankrupt now. - @DarthValtrex Because people with money will complain sometimes but keep buying everytime a new skin sale drops disguised as a event even if the prices are high, see how many people have the bloodhound heirloom despite all the drama for example.
I think the reason they give less mats is so free players won't stock up on all the best skins without spending money, since time spent is obviously meaningless to EA. What they don't realise (or don't care about) is the paying non whale playerbase they're screwing over because of it. @DarthValtrex That's EA at his best lol. Another ridiculous thing is the other level crafting materials. For example a common one contains 15 crafting materials when before they were 30 i think. They nerfed it in front of our faces.
- @Pretzelnutcake Weeeellll, I mean, it IS a free to play game but also a for profit game. If they don't make any money at all, there will be no game to play.
Do they care about the non-whale playerbase, of course, without a player base they wouldn't have a game either, but let's be real, the majority of players haven't spent more than $20 on the game yet have accumulated hundreds, if not thousands of hours of gameplay. - DarthValtrex6 years agoHero (Retired)
@Pretzelnutcake I don’t think that’s why. It’s just a gimmick to get people to spend more money. You won’t have to buy as many apex packs and you’ll get the full value of what you paid for. if they just gave you 1200 crafting metals like they should.
@S8N_Spawn you would still get the same number of legendary items. Sure you could save up the rare/epic/common crafting metals. But it’s no different than how it is now. You’d just be getting the full value for your purchases.
- @DarthValtrex I get it, again, I'm a consumer too. But you're not comparing apples to apples (from a business perspective). Purchasing a legendary skin costs $18, an apex pack is only $1, legendary skins cost 1200 crafting metals and, as you said, you "only" get 600 crafting materials.
So it would take two currently owned legendary drops from apex packs, $2 if you bought them and got extremely lucky, for you to be able to select any legendary skin you want, where an outright purchasing said skin would cost you $18.
It would be nice to get 1200 when a legendary crafting material drops, but having the choice to pick comes at that cost, to both consumers (twice as many drops) and Respawn (effectively changing an $18 purchase to only a $2 purchase).
