Packet Loss Solution

Hello everyone,

as I read, there are many people having this issue and a fix is hard to find. So I thought I put my solution here.

I was plagued by ~50 packet loss on every 3rd-5th game (followed by client crashing) for many months now. It occurred on every server worldwide. I tried everything in the EA help, including tracing, DNS flushing, and whatnot, nothing worked or showed helpful results. What finally did fix the issue was a firmware update on my modem router, a Telekom device (speedport). It was turned to automatic updating but for some reason, it did not install the last update. After I have done it manually I do not experience packet loss anymore, and I think it was not on EAs help notes. It might have caused issues with vectoring....no idea.

So go and see if you have current firmware on your modem router device.

Thanks for posting, an old router/firmware can definitely be problematic.

I was curious so I dug a bit deeper. In early 2020 Speedport Firmware got a faulty update. They wanted to battle cyberattacks in a certain way. But they have not foreseen that this caused general issues with internet connections as small data packets got ignored (sounds familiar). So they fixed the update, but for some reason, this update did not happen automatically in many cases.
