Re: Low ping in server browser, high ping in game and EA connection timed out

I too get a failed connection every now and then. Some of it is a caused by an ISP hiccup other times the game server(s) will also have some issues of their own. Last night there was a major ISP problem over here in Europe causing a ton of issues getting connected to any (EA) game.

-What is your location?

have you tested other games / ping some websites around your location to see the physical distance to a node / server in your area

-If your LAN connection speed is 1MB/s maybe try 24 player servers and see if it makes a difference

-Also make sure not too much traffic on your LAN / WiFi accesspoint and internet connection at the time your play or reduce the bandwidth it uses as much as possible

-The same as above goes for the computer also make sure its not doing more then it can at the time you play a game!

    I live in SEA - Philippines, I cant even connect to any server now it always says connection is timed out and my bandwidth and latency does not meet the requirements. But it displays in the browser that I have 70-80 ping. Im trying to join Japanese servers but its either i am timed out or my ping goes up to 200+ when I join. Other games are fine though like overwatch and cs go. I've tried to join 24 player servers, I can join an empty one with good ping but when Im trying to join a full server it just says connection to EA is timed out again. The only device that is connected to the modem is the pc i've disconnected the wifi in other devices the only thing i am doing now is playing battlefield 1. Server browser says I have good ping but I cant even join a server. I already spent 1 hour on trying to join a server. Did I just bought a game that I can't play?

    If you can connect to an empty server without problems it might have to do with your total available WAN speeds and or connection stability under heavy-load. To get some info on that maybe you can run a UO-Trace as suggested in this EA help topic: UO Trace (middle of the page).

    I tried every full server in Asia and I can't even connect to a single one. I keep getting timed out but I can join servers with 0 players and I have less than 100 ping in there. Here is my UO Trace.

    Yeah already tried those still didn't work. I already contacted them and said that they will make a report about it. I just hope it gets fixed soon lol.

    hmm i dont think I can port forward with a dynamic ip, or can I ? I already have done hard reset though many times now. No I'm not, im playing on a LTE connection so its wireless but I am the only one connected to the modem, no other devices.

    Opening/forwarding ports wont troubleshoot latency or time out issues, since the network connection is established (latency variation,high ping, packet loss) or the remote system (unable to connect to EA´s server, server timeout, unable to login etc)  arent responding to the clients requests. Only EA and their server hosters can fix this problems.

    Hey @Flakstar, Opening/forwarding ports can increase the stability of network and game to the servers make it less likely to disconnect.

    Timeout error is when the server doesn't get enough data from the player to keep the player in the server.

    While we did have a network issue last night, it has since been fixed.

    If you tried our troubleshooting guide I recommend if you have a 4g device/phone or another ISP you can use and try to play and see if that works, if the does work then there is an issue on the ISP.

    I agree with @Flakstar EA automatically port forwards itself through the main port, I've tried port forwarding myself and it didn't make any difference to this issue.

    I can connect to 24 player servers in OC but not 32 or 64 player servers. I can connect to 64 player servers in Hong Kong which I have a 200 ping to. The UO trace is of no use because it's testing your connection to US servers, no help to anyone outside of the United States.

    Hope they fix the EA servers soon cause I'm getting pretty annoyed with the help.ea support staff telling me its my ISPs fault when I've tried 3 different internet connections in different locations and it still happens every time.

    I am connected to my router using ethernet cable. However my internet plan isn't wired, it is LTE so it is wireless.
  • The issues arent clientsided on the customers machine or ISPs. As soon as the traffic hits the BGP routers of your server hosters the problems are beginning. Opening/forwarding ports wont help to fix high load on BGP routers to * of CenturyLink/AWS/Teila. The screenshots doesnt contain my IP address.

    * equals the short handle of autonomous system which the curse fitler dosent like.

  • yeah same...my routes are fine, all hops to the server are under 60ms except for the second which the ping is hidden by isp

    I hate playing against high ping (more than 200) players from other regions because I often loose the duals

    Yes in general you can, the IP status has noting to do with port forwarding.

    I however don't know if your LTE modem gives you that option.

    Your trace-rout is to "login.ea.com", not to a game server.

    I´m aware of the fact that first trace is to login.ea.com, the second trace is the IP, which i3d recommends to trace for probs with their gameservers. It just a visualize the problem within the EA (or better EAs server hoster) network.

    Problems with Battlefield since the past months are inaccessible and/or bad performing EA network services like Origin login down (trace to login.ea.com), ingame server browser with wrong player numbers, missing ingame account+stats, getting kicked back to the server browser after map loading etc, gameserver ticks are fluctuating, fluctuating ping to dutch and irish servers, caused by odd routing of CenturyLink/Telia.

    Sorry, but what is the connection with the very specific problem the OP has. If you see that as a general problem you should open your own thread.

    The latency to "login.ea.com" is not great, but also not really bad. There wont be any login problems if it doesn't get considerably worse.

    The login problem from a few days ago was most probably server side, and not a general latency problem.

    Furthermore, comparing the latency to a i3d game server with that of a login server is like comparing apples and oranges.
    If you ping a BF1 game server you should get much better results. (I definitely get much better results.)

    High latencies can cause TTL timeouts and unreachable services, would be awesome and logically if EA would host the login servers for the EU within the EU. Basics.

    Where did i compare the latencies between the i3d server and login server? These 2 examples IPs were picked to visualize the problem players are coming across when using EA services since a few month and that the problem seems to be backend server/network topology related. Read my post, sry if it´s hard to read, but english is only 2nd language.

    No worry's, English is only a second language to me too, (My first language is in my Sig 😉 )  and I did read your post.

    But I still can't see how a tracerout to "login.ea.com" is relevant to OP problem who is incapable of joining a game server. (I did however not saw is original tracerout)

    You're right of course, high latency's can cause TTL timeouts, but the latency's you have to "login.ea.com" are, as said, not great but also not so bad that TTL timeouts are a giving.

    And your Ping of the i3d servers is flawless. My own ping of the Irish BF1 server (if the ip is still right) had as the worst latency 45ms.
