Re: Boris turret is useless.

@Faydakin1983 If you know how to use the sentry gun it is very useful.

Approach a contested flag and want to spot hidden enemies, whip the turret out and then flank.

Wait for the spots or the enemy to start firing at it and you now have enemy intel you never had before.

Attacking a point and you want something covering your rear? Put the turret down facing in the opposite direction.

Looking for an enemy hiding somewhere that is taking shots at your teammates? Whip out the turret and 9 times out 10 it will spot them for you.

Now you may be thinking you can achieve the same thing with the spot beacon ball, well you only get one, it doesn't fire and enemies don't get distracted by it.

Anyway enough sentry gun tactics for today class but by all means keep complaining how useless it is because I will welcome any buffs to the best specialist in the game for my playstyle.

    @Tank2042ManUsually I agree with you Tank, on this case the nerfs to the sentry gun went too far. Make it weaker, sure. Make it delay shooting longer, sure. Reduce the damage? Sure. Do all three at the same time? I’ve got him at T2 and eventually abandoned him. It’s handy for spots for a little bit, but getting kills with it is so incredibly random and rare, it’s just not worth it IMO. The OP is correct.

    It's effective as a distraction.  It's an assistant.   It shouldn't be doing the work for you.

    If the enemy engages with it then they're giving away their position.  They are distracted.  There's value in that.

    @AngrySquid270 The issue, I can imagine for many, is that his entire mastery is dependent on it doing damage... of which it does less now than it did at launch (and is easier to destroy), but they didn't change the requirements either.

    But surely people aren't expecting balance decisions to be driven by achievements.

    @AngrySquid270no but I expect that the mastery should be adjusted around balance decisions.

    Something being made much slower to progress than it was at an earlier point? Cut down part of the numbers needed to get to mastery 40. It is the fair thing to do for those who do not jump the bandwaggon early

    The only game mode that Boris is actually useful is TDM, if you play solo and need to be alerted when a duo or quad team tries to flank from the side or behind.  That is the only place you can level it to T1 before your 90th birthday...😛

    The irony is the latest 2.1 patch "fixed" the turret being able to fire through smoke...🤔...which was the only way to keep it from getting shot and destroyed instantly.  NOW the only chance to get any real damage is place the turret at height, and baby-sit it constantly as it will get destroyed otherwise...and what fun is that, really???  Drop, hide, let it shoot once, pick it up, drop, hide, let it shoot once, pick it up...🤔 

    I'd say at this point replace the damn thing with another device  (hint flamethrower!!! 👿) or give it more armor and reaction speed as it seems cruel for those trying to T1 Boris to lock them out of that achievement...

    its a specialist weapon, it should be more useful. Look at Liz for example, her TV missile is useful

    Or Zain and his anti cover death cannon.

  • boris is an engineer.  his gadget should be useful against vehicles.  same goes for crawford.  right now neither has a specialist gadget that is useful against vehicles

    @Prof3ss0r_M1k3 Good point. I think his turret could be changed to a 50MM cannon, AA rocket, or AT rocket. Or maybe give the Boris players a choice between AA and AT. That would be useful and really fun to use.

    JMHO

    AI should never be stronger then a player.  It should supplement a player, not play for the player.  See below for further:

    Vehicles are not players.  I would totally support buffing the gun, and Crawford's gun, against vehicles.   I would also make Boris's gun and Ranger only target AI objects, vehicles and drones. Essentially, AI should only target vehicles, other AI, drones.

    Because Crawford's gun is managed by a player, it should not be restricted, increase damage output against AI, vehicles and drones because Crawford is a sitting duck (the drawback for the boost).  Leave its damage alone against players.

    Wild this post was made back in September when it was stronger haha. As others have said, it's not meant to be fancy (though it would be cool if you could actually control it similar to Crawford's turret).

    I'd always make the mistake of staying close to my turret but found it much more beneficial to place it on the opposite side of you - make use of that semi-OP insta spot and view any kills it makes as a sweet bonus!

    A choice of these would be a great improvement. The AA mines in BF4 where handy

    Haha I've placed in my rear watched a dude that shot me in the back walk right up to it look at it for a few second point blank range then just shoot it an walk away. It's the most useless gadget in the entire game.

  • @Legion1Nova Boris absolutely needs to be top priority in Season 5 - both his turret and passive ability need to be reworked by the devs so bad. No other specialist comes close in needing an overhaul.

    Totally agree, Boris is pretty much a lame duck in his current state and in definite need of an overhaul.
  • @RayD_O1 Every other Specialist has been buffed/nerfed/balanced to the point where they're either fine or need a minor tweek. Boris has just constantly been nerfed, and he's just always had the dumbest passive ability out of them all. Yeah, his turret can now target vehicles, but it's still pathetic. Truly hope devs have something decent in the works with him.

    Turret is fine. It’s job is to make enemies become spotted. Either when the turret spots them or they shoot at it, appearing on the minimap meanwhile.

    You shouldn’t be able to plunge down an automated turret and have it give you easy kills.

    @VOLBANKER_PCI don't know why people doesn't understand this.

    Turrets and Rangers are perhaps not the most deadly additions to BF, but they are some of the worst ones added. They only encourage 'destructive' gameplay (camping and soloing).

    People need to shoot with their gun, not having the game play for them.

  • Casper has a remote drone, Lis a remote missile, why not let Boris remotely control his turret, instead of it being a passive autonomous add-on?
