I've tried that, still doesn't work for me. It's driving me insane. My base game version is 1.42.130.019037, I also have the "High End Loft Stuff" and "Late Night" expansion packs installed, versions 3.0.38.004017 and 6.0.81.009017 respectively. My system is Windows 7, I have reinstalled Origin, my Origin and Sims 3 accounts are connected, Origin updated just the other day, my anti virus doesn't have a firewall (AVG Free), and if it's server issues, they've been happening for over a month now so I would class that as highly unlikely.
Try downloading the patch manually here:

Did you clear the browser cache on IE ?
