Sims 3 no longer recognizing graphics card after EA and Windows 10 update
Hello, I have been playing The Sims 3 with a new graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (192-bit)) on my PC for over a year now with no problems. However, after a recent update on Origin, my graphic options reset every time I load it. I uninstalled and reinstalled, I set the Sims 3 folders to factory setting, and I have tried these two methods: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Getting_new_graphics_cards_recognized_by_the_game and http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=481768. Both methods with no success.
I checked DeviceConfig, and it always says Name (database): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (192-bit) [Found: 0, Matched: 0]. The funny thing is I do not even get a "Graphics card not recognized" Warning. Wouldn't I at least get that message if the card was not getting recognized?
I am all out of ideas, I am hoping someone can help me, as it has been working just fine for the past year, and then after the update from EA Origin, it is no longer recognized? I don't know if my computer is not recognizing it, I did see a VPN error message for my PC under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers. I do not know if that has anything to do with it though. I am more than happy to attach any files needed, such as GraphicRules SGR and GraphicCards SGR files. I will attach the DxDiag, for more information. I appreciate and will be very thankful for any help offered.
@Barnesd83 I'm glad to hear that the settings are working now. The fact that your graphics look better overall do point to a problem with your previous driver, but that's what the clean uninstall is for. The error message about your video card is normal—it just means that your options file was refreshed, as it would be after a driver install. (The build number of the new driver doesn't match what options has listed, so it resets once and throws that error.)
To get your card recognized, you'll need to edit both graphics cards and graphicsrules. I'll send the instructions by PM because they're specific to your card, and I wouldn't want someone copying the edits for a different card and then wondering why they didn't work.
