Re: AI balance issues in Career mode

Ive also had this issue. I beat the ai by 2mins in one stage at sweden, winning the rally by 4, even though I had a broken steering rack for the last sector and couldnt go straight without going slow

AI was already unbalanced in previous Codemasters games but here it went completely broke at least in career mode.

Most of the time it's just too easy on highest difficulty and then in some specific cases it becomes hard. This needs fix.

I actually think AI in Need for Speed is well balanced so maybe they could learn a thing? At the same time NFS team should learn about handling from Codemasters cuz it's awful in NFS.

    Hi Everyone,

I've had a flick through some of the EA Forums for WRC and I've not yet seen anyone bring this topic up.

I am by no means the quickest driver out there on this game, but I'm finding it disappointing how easy the game is to win stages and events on 100 AI difficulty. For me, I think 100 should be close to unbeatable, requiring clean stages constantly, like it is in real life WRC.

I love this game so much, but there is no challenge aspect with it being so easy to win events, while having crashes occasionally and spins.

An example, I recently started a custom JWRC championship, first event is Sweden and generally I struggle on the snowy events, I had a massive roll on the first stage, lost maybe 15s, but I was just 1s behind the leader on that stage. Clean stages I was winning by 15-20s easily without really having to push hard or take risks. This was on 100 AI difficulty. It just feels so easy and not a challenge!

I'd love to know if anyone else agrees with this point.

    Cheers,

    Ewan!

Summarize your bug AI difficulty varies in different modes at the same level
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try racing 100 AI in both career and quick race and you will find out that in career with builder car it's very hard to come out with good times while in quick races with the same AI level you can finish first by a decent margin!
What happens when the bug occurs? I finish in last position in career in every race, but in quck race I finish on first position
What do you expect to see? You should make both career and quick races having the same difficulty at the same AI level.

AI difficulty is not the same in every mode while setting it at the same level.

How many more time need wait for fix a bug of IA?! for your programmers it takes 5 minutes.

you're doing it on purpose, there's no need to wait until December 15th for a patch, just release this fix yourself

I buy one game on 23 october,  and today on 23 november after 1 m9nth I have a game broken uplayable because IA not work, or fix the IA in few days or make possibility to have refund,  because the online game I don't interest! I buy game for career and career its broken, than i want legitimate refund

The problems its your, i understand if the team working to fix and the timing for release game its too small, but im consumer, and pay for one product if the game its broken or incomplete, EA he shouldn't have released it

Has anyone tested whether this issue happens if you do a short race and don't restart the race or quite mid way through ?

i.e. if you don't do a replay or quite the stage mid way through

Does the AI 'stage leader' on the progress bar actually mimic the stage being driven (with fast and slower parts of the stage) or is it just a count down timer to the finish stage time of the leader? On multiple stages with a lot of twists and turns in sector 1 I have found myself being left behind by AI who seem to progress as if for them the sector is just a straight only to "easily" catch back up at moments where the stage actually becomes a bit faster.

Summarize your bug IA change de performance between different stages in the same rally, in Batukangkung stage they beat me for 2 minutes and in the next stage in Moearaikoer I beat them for 2 minutes. Both in Group A this bug make career mode unplayable
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play thus stages un career mode. IA 95%
What happens when the bug occurs? Ia change her performance
What do you expect to see? Similar performance in similar stages and conditions

Have only now started to focus on Ai difficulty as up to now as a Rally noob  I’ve been playing with settings and setups and changing my hardwired smooth and precise F1 muscle memory to something very different

Any I’m wondering as Codemasters added adaptive Ai to F1 game last year.  And although it’s only ment to be active on beginner and amateur level.  This year especially It feels constantly present to frustrate and enrage me.  As soon as you pull out a few seconds lead doesn’t matter what team and how op my car is compared to them. Given a few laps they will be all over me.

But more relevant is.  Apparently The adaptive Ai was added to help a noob or casual amateur player as the Ai would slow down or speed up depending on player. To the point if player spun off track(Which in this game is inevitable as I’ve even seen many many YouTube pros struggle.  Especially my fellow F1 sweats) the Ai slows right down and waits for player to catch them back up.  Which from my understanding of what you guys  are saying.  WRC Ai is acting in a similar manner.  Regardless of the difficulty setting:     As much as I don’t like anything to do with Ai cheats and scripts.  As F1 and Rally games are solely focused on a specific race series.    To sell the numbers they need to reach their margins. Means making sure even the very worst players can feel like a rally god:    If the game does have a poorly implemented adaptive Ai. It’ll mean it they decide to fix  it properly. changing it will take time.  Every car controlled by a Ai will need to be tested on every stage at every difficulty over and over.  Someone said it’ll take 5 minutes?  5 months would be more accurate.   Project Cars 2 released and from the start Ai was poor. So the developers announced soon after launch they have put a team together to make improvements to Ai.  Nine months later the game got a update with a slightly better Ai.  Or they can opt for adding scripts that will force Ai results on us.   Which will be far worse Than it  currently is. F1 Ai this year is a disaster

as ai was really easy this year on higher levels a patch came out and now the ai will keep you in your place.  Doesn’t matter if you have a perfect race. If your car is ranked 5th the rankings the game will do it’s best to make sure you finish 9th or 10th

If you consider SophyAi now by far the best racing Ai.  Ten years I think in development by polyphony and Sony Ai with Sony giving massive resource support to it including full access to Sony super computers.  And still it’s no where near fully being fully implemented into GT7 possibly won’t be until next gen

    Hey there,

While the team is currently investigating and working on fixes where possible, we need additional information to help fully diagnose the issue and develop a definitive fix for a future patch. That's why I have created this thread to collect as much data as possible.

    Inconsistent AI Times

Thank you very much for your help.

Summarize your bug A.I. low difficult performance in championship after restarting the game.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? - Start a "new" championship with AI difficult at least in 60%; - Compare the diference times from the opponents after the 1st race; - Quit the championship and restart the game; - Resume the championship and after the 2nd race compare the diference times from opponents again.
What happens when the bug occurs? The AI performance change to very easy besides the setting is in higher levels, noticed in championship.
What do you expect to see? A balanced level of AI difficult, reflecting the setting.

When playing in championship mode (I don't know in other modes) the AI performance difficult change itself to very easy if you quit to resume after restarting the game, no matter if the game is set in a high difficult level of AI (like 60 for exemple).

If they are just now asking the community for help in reproducing the bug, it doesn't look good for the December patch ☹️

@Jvitma think how bad they are...and they tell me that they didn't know about these bugs before the release? they simply wanted to make money and released it buggy, we pay for it

    Same here.

I noticed that in difficulty 50, everything was fine, but the competitors were pretty dull, so I started increasing the difficulty steadily to 60. When I arrived at 60, the game started to "invent" the timings from the competitors. For example, I am leading in the first stage, and in the second stage, I beat the leader of the class. When I finished and checked the Class table, I was 12th while the one I beat on the stage was leader. I went back to difficulty 50, and everything was fine.

It seems a bug, as the game is inventing timings.

  • Sorry if this has been mentioned but if you save your progress mid-rally during a championship, when you return to it the AI difficulty seems to reset to, well, super easy.

You know when something is amiss as soon as it shows all your opponents split times as being identical to your time.

PJ Tierney over on the reddit says the AI STILL won't be fixed in the December patch. This is absolutely ridiculous that they would release a game so buggy they couldn't even fix it after MONTHS of user reports. Last time I'll be burned by Codemasters like this, I guarantee you that. Now I know to wait at least six months before I buy any of their games so they can fix the * thing.
